IMO Sec-Gen to Address Upcoming Denmark CSR Conference

Danish Shipowners' Association in collaboration with the World Maritime University; BIMCO; The Nippon Foundation and the Japanese International Transport Institute will focus on maritime corporate social responsibility (CSR) at the Culture Yard in Helsingør on Tuesday November 12, 2013.

The conference, entitled " Northern European Shipping CSR Symposium - Making the Business Case for a Sustainable Shipping Industry " derives in part of the Rio +20 sustainable global development based on voluntary participation by private companies . Focus will be both theoretical and practical on how European companies and organizations engaged in CSR and on the triple bottom line, which consists of profit but also social and environmental aspects .


"In the Danish Shipowners Association we work seriously with CSR on the shipping industry's behalf. Each individual company's CSR efforts is the company's individual choice, but we function as a platform for knowledge and experience sharing, while we handle the dialogue with politicians and authorities. This symposium with the participation of researchers, policy makers and future officials graduated from the World Maritime University is a solid step forward, " says the director of this Association, Anne H. Steffensen, who is among the presenters.


Among the speakers are: IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu; Chairman of The Nippon Foundation Yohei Sasakawa; CEO of J. Lauritzen A / S, Jan Kastrup -Nielsen; CEO of Nordic Tankers; Claus Thornberg and Annette Stube, who besides being CSR Director of AP Moller - Maersk is chairman of the Danish Shipowners' Association 's CSR committee.
