A new liner service from shipping company CMA CGM The French Line is connecting Hamburg with Australia and New Zealand.
Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane,
Auckland, Lyttelton, Melbourne, Adelaide, Jakarta, Port Kelang,
Chennai, Colombo, Djibouti, Jeddah, Damietta, Malta, La Spezia,
Tilbury, Hamburg. On the return leg the service's 13 ships of 2,500 to
2,800 TEU container capacity also call at the port of Chennai,
previously Madras. Sailings between Hamburg, the Indian Subcontinent, Australia and New Zealand will initially be every 14 days, increasing to weekly in May.
The Port of Hamburg container terminals handled around 38.000 TEU
from/to Australia last year. In New Zealand container traffic Hamburg
handled around 14.000 boxes (TEU) in 2006. From Australia coal, oil
seeds, frozen meat and wine were the most imported goods handled in
Hamburg. Export to Australia was dominated by fertilizer, machines,
chemical products and paper. Main import goods coming from New
Zealand are frozen meat, chemical products, textiles and fruit. Export
via Hamburg to New Zealand is mainly fertilizer, chemical products,
paper and machines.
