January 30, 2006

A Panamanian ship reportedly collided with two other vessels near the Peruvian port of Callao last Friday, splitting in two and leaving one sailor missing, the Seattle Post Intelligencer reported. 22 crew members from the Panamanian ship were rescued. The container ship first collided with a Cypriot cargo vessel, sustaining heavy damage. Before sinking, it struck a Maltese-flagged ship, causing little damage but knocking one of its crew into the water. Rescue teams were searching for the sailor off Callao, a port city adjoining Lima, Peru's capital.
