ILO Convention on Seafarers’ ID card to Come into Force

The International Labor Organization (ILO) issued a Press Release stating that ILO Convention 185 establishing a new biometric identity verification system for seafarers will come into force in February 2005. The convention was adopted in June 2003 and has now been ratified by France and Jordan. The ILO is preparing to test biometric identity verification systems from a number of suppliers for compatibility with convention requirements. (HK Law)
