Corvus Energy Supply BMS to New Østensjø Rederi PSV

Corvus Energy supplies Norwegian ship owner Østensjø Rederi with turnkey lithium-ion battery management system (BMS) for newly designed vessel.

The Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), designated ST-920, is being developed by Østensjø Rederi together with ship designer Skipsteknisk in Ålesund and building yard Astilleros Gondan in Spain in close collaboration with Siemens as the systems integrator and Corvus Energy as the energy storage system enabler. The new vessel will be used to support rig operations in the North Sea and construction is expected to complete in September 2013.

Corvus’ AT6500 industrial lithium-ion battery packs are ideally suited as the building block for a vessel’s marine hybrid propulsion needs. Based on the standard 8D format that is recognized and used in 95 percent of marine applications today, they are small and lightweight, delivering the lightest footprint in the market.

The company’s energy storage system is capable of supplying tremendous amperage for vessel starts. In the case of Østensjø, the system is anticipated to support Dynamic Positioning Mode by delivering peak outputs up to 2MWh for a 273 kWh system, and being able to take both charge and regeneration in excess of 500kWh.
