Nor-Shipping announces the call for entries for the Nor-Shipping Awards 2011, which are the Clean Ship Award and the Next Generation Ship Award. The deadline for submissions is April 1, 2011.

The Clean Ship Award pays tribute to the ship that has contributed to the greatest reduction of emissions to air or discharges to sea in relation to its function and operation. Only ships delivered after the previous Nor-Shipping in June 2009 are eligible. Nor-Shipping has long served as a strong platform for the promotion of environmentally responsible performance within the industry and this award continues that tradition.

Nor-Shipping introduces the Next Generation Ship Award, which honors innovative design for ships that will be at sea in the coming decade. It will be awarded to the ship project demonstrating the greatest advances in design with respect to energy efficiency, innovation, suitability and flexibility, technology utilization, safety and security and environmental sustainability. Eligible projects are those that have already begun being built or are very likely to be built within the next 10 years.

An independent jury that is led by Det Norske Veritas is responsible for the selection. The winners will be announced during the Nor-Shipping Opening Conference on May 24, 2011. Select nominees for both awards will also be presented as part of a gallery display at the Nor-Shipping exhibition, attracting attention throughout the entire event week.

Tollef Schiander, Director of Nor-Shipping, says, “To further encourage quality work among peers and to profile role models in the industry, Nor-Shipping has strengthened its award program this year. We have focused on two awards that represent very different but very important elements of the industry – the Clean Ship Award and the Next Generation Ship Award.”
