August 8, 2014

On 4 August, Gerhard Furø took up the position of Vice President technical and commercial for Havyard Design & Solutions AS.

Gerhard Furø has previously been a consultant with Boatlabs AS, where, in recent years, he has been working under a contract with EMAS AMS and engaged in the operation of ships and technical and commercial follow-up of newbuild projects.

In Havyard Design & Solutions, he will be working together with sales, design and the project organisation on the delivery of design and equipment packages.

Furø's previous experience includes 16 years as project manager, project director and production director at Ulstein Shipyard. He has also worked as a contract manager for Rolls Royce Marine, and been general manager for MMC Tendos and for Trico Suppy's office in Fosnavåg, respectively.

From 2009, Furø worked for Aker Marine Contractors and was responsible for technical and other follow-up during the construction of the subsea construction vessel AMC Connector for delivery from what is now the VARD Søviknes yard. Since 2012, Furø has worked for EMAS AMC. His responsibilities included operation of Lewek Connector, Boa Deep Sea and Boa Sub C and follow-up during the construction of the newbuild Lewek Inspector, which was built at Havyard's shipyard in Leirvik.

Stig Magne Espeseth, Executive Vice President and head of the business area Design & Solutions in Havyard, is very pleased to now have Gerhard Furø on his team. 'Gerhard has much needed cutting-edge expertise in the areas of design and sales as well as project implementation,' says Espeseth. 'Gerhard has been responsible for major construction projects and, particularly in recent years, he has gathered much expertise relating to large, advanced subsea vessels. I am sure that Gerhard will contribute to the advancement of Havyard Design & Solutions and that we will benefit greatly from his expertise,' adds Stig Magne Espeseth with satisfaction.

'When this opportunity to join Havyard presented itself, I did not need much time to think it over,' says Gerhard Furø. 'I am impressed by how Havyard has developed and by what has been achieved in a relatively short space of time. In the position of Vice President technical and commercial, I will be able to apply my expertise and experience and take part in all phases from concept development to project implementation.'

In recent years, Furø has done much work relating to the construction of large subsea vessels, and he believes there will be good opportunities for Havyard in this market, including in the years to come.
