HMS Nottingham is presently anchored off Lord Howe Island 300 NM east of the Australian mainland following a grounding on Wolfe Rock – 2 miles off the Island. The ship has been damaged in the forward sections on the starboard side, but the situation is being controlled, and there are no casualties. The initial actions by the ships company contained the flooding. A team of divers from the ships company and also the Australian Navy are currently assessing the damage to the forward compartments. A team of (MOD) technical experts from the UK are also on their way out to Lord Howe Island to supplement the current team of divers assessing the damage. HMS Nottingham had been on a visit to Cairns in East Australia, and was on passage to Wellington in New Zealand as part of a 9-month deployment.
