An overcrowded boat carrying 54 passengers, mostly children and old people celebrating Easter, capsized off Indonesia killing at least 21, officials said on Tuesday.

"The boat capsized on Sunday afternoon. So far 21 people have been found dead. One is still missing but the rest survived," a Naval official said. Cahyono said the boat was carrying worshippers from a church in Sensong village, North Sulawesi, for an Easter ceremony at sea.

"The boat capsized when weather conditions suddenly worsened," he said. "There were too many people on board. Many of the passengers, mostly children and seniors, could not save themselves."
