The Sea Shall Not Have Them: Latest Rescue News

In the Philippines a large scale rescue of ferry passengers, on the other side of the world, a British fishing boat crew is airlifted to safety, and a man is plucked from rough seas off Aberdeen breakwater.

A rescue team from Philippine Coast Guard search and rescue vessel, BRP EDSA II (SARV-002) evacuated 132 passengers from the MV Our Lady Of All Nation after the inter-island ferry ran aground at Danajon Bank, Bohol.

The crew of the sinking 18-m fishing vessel RACHEL JAYNE lll  sent out a Mayday as they took to a liferaft 26 miles ENE of Tynemouth Piers. The four crew were winched from the liferaft by an RAF helicopter and taken to hospital.

Mike Puplett Humber Coastguard Watch Manager said:
”The Rachel Jayne III was listing badly when the crew took to the liferaft, and has since sunk. This was a well-known Maryport registered prawn fishing boat with an experienced crew. This evening’s incident just goes to show that you should always be prepared for the unexpected.”

Aberdeen, Scotland
A Police Officer and two unknown members of the public pulled a person from a rough sea on to the shore. A helicopter sent out by Aberdeen Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre took them straight from there to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for urgent medical attention.
                      
Aberdeen Coastguard Watch Manager Kevin Brown said:
"We’re not sure how the person came to be in the water. The people who pulled them from the sea to the shore was incredibly brave given the rough conditions on the breakwater in Stonehaven today.”
