Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

November 18, 2003

The latest range of Radar from leading marine electronics manufacturer Simrad is the highly advanced RA80 and RA90 Series’, which come in both non IMO and IMO approved versions. Simrad has utilised its strong R&D pedigree to create a ‘Black Box’ system that offers powerful functionality, choice and ease of installation. The Black Box nature of Simrad’s new Radar system makes it possible to install it in areas where space is limited. The Processor unit (the black box) can be stored almost anywhere on a vessel and connects to the operator unit, which can be positioned elsewhere. Display of the RA80 Series is through Simrad’s new 17” Professional Monitor whilst the RA90 utilises the new 19” screens. Called the ‘CF’ range all of Simrad’s new monitors offer excellent clarity and enhanced colour and image quality. Night time operation is enhanced through fully controllable brightness. Dual station functionality is catered for using a combination of monitors and operator stations running from single scanner input. A full dual station system with two radar antennas is possible using the 'interswitch' capability of both systems. Other features include output to VDR, EPA, Nav Lines, Trails, Floating off-center, Dual VRM, Dual EBL, A-Scope on 1st EBL, History line and Guard Zone. Options include input from AIS and ATA. The RA80 and RA90 Series are available with antenna output powers of 6kW, 12kW And 25kw giving ranges from 64 to 96 NM.
