1st lifejacket for Working at heights
The first lifejacket custom-designed specifically for offshore personnel carrying out rope access or work at height has been developed by Survitec Group, the leading provider of survival and safety equipment to the offshore industry.
The jacket, which has been designed in conjunction with leading offshore operators, incorporates a number of safety features which include minimising the risk of accidental deployment. Trialled successfully both on and offshore to work in conjunction with a fall arrest harness, it has already been recognised as an industry-leading product by companies which specialise in operating at height.
Survitec Group supplies and maintains around 85% of lifejackets and liferafts to the offshore industry in the northern, central and southern North Sea. The new jacket comes to market as the Group achieves another milestone with the supply of more than 30,000 Abandonment Lifejackets to the Oil & Gas Sector.
“We have worked very closely with the Rope Access sector to introduce a solution that offers unrivalled performance and, most importantly, minimises risk in accidental deployment,” said Kevin Laing, Head of Sales – Oil & Gas.
“An additional benefit for operators is the potential for significant cost savings for service and maintenance through Survitec’s Launch and Recovery Systems (LARS) programme,” said Kevin. “Because we are the only company providing a complete offshore maintenance and servicing programme for lifeboats and lifejackets, it can all be done in one offshore trip by the same multi-skilled engineer. In the current economic climate, this is an important consideration for operators because it means they can combine enhanced safety with lower costs.”
