Offshore Sailing School's to open new branch at Hudson River Trust's Pier 25

Offshore Sailing School has signed an agreement with Liberty Landing NYC at Hudson River Park's Pier 25 in Manhattan's Tribeca area. The New York sailing school will provide sailing lessons and sailing courses for area residents and visitors starting May 15, 2012 at this new location.

A long time tenant of Liberty Landing Marina in Liberty State Park on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, Offshore Sailing School brings sailing lessons for adults, teens and youngsters to lower Manhattan with plans to expand with a sailing club and community sailing offers.

Courses offered in the initial stages are the three-day and five-day Learn to Sail courses. Performance Sailing courses will also be available, as well as two-hour sailing lessons.
"We are thrilled to be opening in this beautiful area," states Doris Colgate, CEO and President of Offshore Sailing School. "It's a wonderful community with individuals and families who actively participate in many outdoor sports."

Hudson River Park's Pier 25 includes a playground, esplanade and seating areas, synthetic turf field, viewing scopes, mini-golf and beach volleyball, water taxis and refreshments among other amenities. The 1933 historic Lilac steamship, built for the US Lighthouse Service is docked on the north side of the Pier. "Ironically," says Colgate, "our classrooms and offices at Liberty Landing in New Jersey are in the historic red lightship docked in the marina there. The Lilac probably serviced that lightship."

Offshore Sailing School was founded in 1964 by America's Cup and Olympic Sailor Steve Colgate. For years it offered classroom instruction in mid-town Manhattan with on-water instruction on City Island, NY. In the 1980s the school moved its New York base from City Island to Jersey City, operating out of property where Colgate soap was produced. The Colgate clock now stands at the entrance to Liberty Landing Marina, a constant reminder of Steve Colgate's heritage.

Liberty Landing NYC at Hudson River Park's Pier 25 brings the total location count for Offshore Sailing School to eight. Other local campuses are at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan at 23rd Street and the Hudson River, and Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City, NJ. Offshore's other five locations are at resort locations in St. Michaels, Maryland; Captiva Island, Florida; Ft. Myers Beach, Florida; St. Petersburg, Florida; and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.
