Drydocks World and Maritime World threw their combined weight behind the Emirate’s bid to host the World Expo in 2020 while also discussing matters of mutual cooperation with Italian industry leaders .

His Excellency Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman, Drydocks World & Maritime World who was in Italy to address participants at the Mare Forum, met with Mr. Paolo D’Amico Chairman of the Italian Ship Owners Association, Dr. Enrico Maria Pujia Director General of the Maritime and Inland Waterways Transport, Commander Alberto Gauxolino of the Italian Navy and other high level dignitaries representing the Italian Transport Ministry and the Italian Navy. During this meeting discussions were held on matters of mutual interest and cooperation including services that DDW could provide to the Italian global fleet including military vessels.

During the meeting HE Buamim stressed the importance of global maritime sustainability and the major role that Dubai and the UAE could play in global trade and commerce. He cited the business friendly policies and the strong infrastructure built to cater for the industry which has resulted in making Dubai an important global player in this area.

HE Buamim took the opportunity during this meeting to express the maritime industries desire that that Italian business and government support Dubai’s bid to host the World Expo 2020. Presenting the Expo 2020 pin to attendees, he stressed that such support would positively impact on greater levels of cooperation and opportunities for bilateral trade between the two countries.

“Drydocks World is a representation of Dubai’s push for perfection and excellence in all fields of human endeavor. The theme of the Expo 2020 ‘Connecting Minds Creating the Future’ aptly describes what we strive to do at DDWMW-creating a shared purpose and commitment to achieve this objective. With a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic workforce from 50 nationalities drawn from the global maritime, oil, gas and energy sectors, being able to get everyone working to one common objective exemplifies this theme. In addition the theme complements our organizations drive towards business growth and sustainability exemplified by our own caption which underpins our business – ‘Business Transformation through Continuous Innovation.’ Our organization is a true microcosm of Dubai- it is a world in itself – a melting pot of world cultures – all striving to create a better future for themselves and the world we live in-but all working to one common purpose,” HE Buamim said.

“This global event which attracts millions of visitors has never been held in this region, and this will provide an opportunity for us to be able to showcase the rich culture, heritage and tradition that we have to offer. It will be a catalyst for economic, cultural and social transformation and generates far reaching legacies for not only the host city but for the nation as a whole. It will demonstrate to the world what we have been able to achieve in a relatively short period of time since we became a nation and provide a platform to display our ambitious plans for the future. From a business perspective Expo 2020 will create a strong platform for connectivity to help pioneer and establish new partnerships for growth and sustainability in the future,” he added.
