Khaydukov Named President of PAO Novoship

The Board of Directors of Russian tanker shipping company PAO Novoship has elected Alexey Khaydukov as the company’s new President.Khaydukov replaces the firm’s previous President, Yury Tsvetkov, who stepped down from his role on August 8, 2018, following his appointment as a Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia, Head of the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport.Prior to his appointment, Khaydukov was Managing Director of SCF Management Services (Novorossiysk) Ltd.

Inmarsat Sponsorship for safety H.E.R.O.

Inmarsat will commemorate the untimely passing earlier this year of one of the architects of its Maritime Safety Operations network by sponsoring the first International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) H.E.R.O. Award for outstanding service to maritime search and rescue, 'The Vladimir Maksimov Award'. The sponsorship is seen as a fitting tribute to Vladimir Maksimov, Inmarsat Director of SOLAS Services, who died on 4th May 2016 after a short illness, following 25 years with Inmarsat. Mr Maksimov played a central role in the Inmarsat safety team. The H.E.R.O. (Honouring Excellence in Rescue Operations) Awards, launched by the IMRF in April this year, have been developed to draw attention to the extraordinary work done to save lives in maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) across the world.

Maritime Academy Makeover Courtesy of International Paint

International Paint helps refurbish a classroom at the Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. The project began when Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GM&T), a wholly owned subsidiary of Russian energy firm OAO Gazprom, invited a group of suppliers to consider ways to cooperate with the Academy. A group of volunteers from International Paint in St. Petersburg teamed up with colleagues from the AkzoNobel Wood Coatings and Adhesives business to transform a classroom at the Academy and equip it with a new LCD projector, screen, computer, whiteboard, tables and chairs. Alan Walker, International Paint’s Marine Director for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia said: “As well as the refurbishment we will also provide training and training materials to the Academy.

Arctic Navigation Training Center Opened in Russia

OAO Sovcomflot opens its Saint-Petersburg captain & senior officer training & engineering centre (TEC) for Arctic offshore operations. The opening of the modern training centre in Russia’s maritime capital marks an important milestone in the implementation of the SCF development strategy which provides for an expansion of company participation in oil & gas projects in the Arctic and sub-Arctic. Sovcomflot vessels provide year-round support for large offshore energy projects, such as: Sakhalin-I, Sakhalin-II, Varandey, Tangguh, Escobar, and Peregrino.

Cooperation between Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy and ABS

Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy Cadets

ABS has signed an agreement with the Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy (AMSMA) initiating a new cooperation between the two organisations. Based in St Petersburg, AMSMA has a total of nine faculties offering a wide array of marine- related courses including postgraduate studies and doctorate programmes. One of the main aims of AMSMA is to prepare the next generation of Russia seafarers to serve on Russia’s expanding commercial fleet. To date AMSMA is the only academic institution offering specific training courses for cadets serving on vessels transiting the North Sea Route.

Simulated Exercise Completed in the Gulf of Finland

Thought to be the first of its kind in the world, Russia, Finland and Estonia all cooperated together as part of an EU funded long term project on Gulf of Finland Maritime Safety and Marine Environment Protection Cooperation (GOFMEC) which allowed crisis response simulator training to take place simultaneously in three educational establishments. In order to achieve this, the maritime educational institutes of the aforementioned countries were equipped with latest marine and crisis management simulators from Transas’ simulation division which worth approximately $318,900. Maritime Administrator Concludes Moscow Discussions

Maritime Administrator Captain William G. Schubert completed two days of bilateral consultations on July 22 and July 23 in Moscow with his Russian counterpart, Vyacheslav V. Ruksha, head of the State Maritime Administration of the Russian Federation. The talks were aimed at guiding the implementation of and continuing follow-up discussions for the 5-year bilateral agreement signed on June 2001 by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta and Russian Transport Minister Sergey Frank. "Our bilateral maritime relationship with the Russian government goes back 30 years," stated Capt. Schubert. "This relationship between our two nations was fundamental in opening trade between the U.S.
