Ultra Large Tug Alp Striker Delivered

From Japan's Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair, Inc. (NSR), fully owned by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., comes the first in four of a series of ultra large, ultra powerful tugs. The first in line is dubbed Alp Striker,  delivered to Alp Striker BV (ship owning company of ALP Maritime Services BV, Netherlands ) in early September 2016. Alp Striker is one of strongest and largest towing vessels in the world, able to sail to a top speed of 19.16 knots, 13 knots in ordinal sailing and to tow 309.6 tons.

Striking Bollard Pull Results for ALP Striker

ALP Striker achieved an impressive and most satisfactory bollard pull results of 309.6 tonnes during her sea trials. The DP II Anchor Handling Salvage Tug was delivered on 12 September to ALP Maritime Services. The vessel is designed for towing very large floating objects while also offering services such as anchor handling, positioning and mooring. The ALP Striker has been constructed by Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair, Japan. She is the first of four ultra-long distance towing and anchor handling vessels for ALP Maritime Services, a subsidiary of Teekay Offshore Partners L.P. The vessel is a part of the shipowner’s ALP FUTURE class, a series of stronger and larger towing vessels to match and enable increase in size of FPSOs, FLNGs and similar floating installations.

ALP's Long-range Oceangoing Tug Named ALP Striker

ALP Striker, named at a ceremony held named on May 13, 2016, is the first of four ultra-long distance towing and anchor handling vessels for ALP Maritime Services, each with a bollard pull of approximately 300 metric tons. The vessels of the SX157 design are a part of the ALP Future class. Service speed is 13 knots, while their top speed is 19 knots. With a fuel capacity of more than 3,500 cubic meters, they can tow at full power for 45 days, sufficient for nonstop Trans-Atlantic/Indian, Pacific Ocean towing operations without fuel calls.

DNV GL to Class ALP's Ocean-Going Tugs

DNV GL congratulates ALP Maritime Services on the development of its next-generation “ALP Future Class” ocean going tugs. The vessels, developed by Ulstein Design & Solutions in close cooperation with ALP Maritime Services (ALP), are SX157 design with a 300-ton bollard pull, capable of operating at full loads for 45 days without refuelling. ALP, which was recently acquired by Teekay Offshore, has contracted Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair yard to build four vessels. The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2016. According to Bas Veerman, DNV GL Customer Service Manager (BeNeLux), the “ALP Future Class” vessels have a number of specialised notations.

Cat Power Solution for Teekay Offshore

Caterpillar Marine announced that Cat power and propulsion offerings have been selected to provide complete propulsion solutions for four ocean-going towing vessels designed by Ulstein Design and Solutions. Each vessel will have four 9 M 32 C propulsion engines, rated at 4,500 bkW at 600 rpm. Also onboard each vessel will be three Cat C32 auxiliary generator sets rated at 940 ekW at 1,800 rpm as well as one Cat C9 generator set to provide emergency power. All four vessels will be equipped with two AEM shaft generators rated at 3,150 ekW at 1,200 rpm.

Pon Power Supplies Engines, Gensets for ALP, Ulstein

Pon Power Scandinavia, a supplier of marine power and propulsion systems, announced that the company has been contracted by ALP Maritime Services and Ulstein Design & Solutions to provide engines and gensets to four oceangoing AHTS. Designed to tow large structures over long distances, the ALP Future Class tugs represent next-generation of AHTS, Pon Power said. The vessels, developed by Ulstein Design & Solutions in close cooperation with the owner, ALP Maritime Services, are SX157 design, with a 300-ton bollard pull, capable of operating at full loads for 45 days without refuelling. Øystein Solberg, Account Manager for Pon Power Scandinavia, said that under the terms of the contract, Pon Power Scandinavia will provide four main engines and gensets for all four vessels.

ALP Tugs Get Rolls-Royce Deck Equipment

Rolls-Royce won a $31.9m contract to deliver deck machinery for four ocean going tugs, designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions, for Dutch company ALP Maritime Services. The vessels will be constructed in Japan by Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair. The vessels are being developed for towing large structures like oil rigs and floating production units over long distances. The bollard pull for each of the four vessels will be 300 tons and they will be equipped for anchor handling. The deck machinery include a complete low pressure winch solution and a stern roller.

Rolls-Royce to supply machinery for 4 tugs for ALP Maritime Services

Rolls-Royce has been awarded a £19m contract to deliver deck machinery for four ocean going tugs, designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions, for Dutch company ALP Maritime Services. The vessels will be constructed in Japan by Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair. The vessels are being developed for towing large structures like oil rigs and floating production units over long distances. The bollard pull for each of the four vessels will be 300 tons and they will be equipped for anchor handling. John Knudsen, Rolls-Royce, President Offshore, said: "This project is a good example of how our solid industry know-how makes us a partner of choice for innovative ship owners and design teams. The deck machinery delivered from Rolls-Royce will include a complete low pressure winch solution and a stern roller.

Ulstein Enters Oceangoing Tug Market

Ulstein has sold design and equipment packages for four ocean going tugs to Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair in Japan. The vessels will be built for the Dutch company ALP Maritime Services. The vessels are primarily designed for towing of large structures over long distances. This is a new market for Ulstein and the contract represents so far the highest value in one single contract for Ulstein Design & Solutions. The vessels of the SX157 design are developed especially for this project in close collaboration with ALP.

Teekay Offshore Buys Towage Firm, Orders New AHTS Vessels

Teekay Offshore Partners say they have agreed to acquire ALP Maritime Services B.V. (ALP), a Netherlands-based provider of long-haul ocean towage and offshore installation services to the global offshore oil and gas industry. ALP currently provides these services through a fleet of third-party owned vessels. As part of the transaction, Teekay Offshore and ALP have ordered four state-of-the-art towing and anchor handling vessel newbuildings, which will be capable of ultra-long distance towing…

Powerful Tugboats Speeded FPSO Delivery

To reduce the transit time of the large FPSO 'Papa Terra' from the Far East to Brazil, AHT 'Uranus' & AHT 'Janus' were engaged. BW Offshore and their end-client Petrobas called on Alp Maritime Services to advise on what strength bollard pull would be required to reduce the projected delivery voyage time of the new FPSO if undertaken under its own power. Towage engineering performed by Alp indicated that the transit from Singapore to Brazil could be cut with nearly 8-10 days…
