First Woman President for BIMCO

BIMCO ECSA Leadership Meeting in Athens

The BIMCO President, Anastasios Papagiannopoulos and European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) President, Panos Laskarides met in Athens recently to discuss areas of cooperation and further alignment between the two leading associations representing shipowners globally and in Europe respectively.“ECSA and BIMCO have supported each other in the past but there is a desire by both associations to further improve and deepen our cooperation”, said Mr. Panos Laskaridis.“We discussed the key issues currently concerning the shipping industry such as environmental legislation, both at the European and international level, including CO2 emissions from shipping and the global limit for sulphur that will be effective from January 2020.

BIMCO CEO Extends Contract 5 Years

BIMCO’s Secretary General & CEO, Angus Frew, will extend his contract to the end of 2022. His top priority in 2018 will be environmental legislation. Over the past four years, Frew has been instrumental in modernising BIMCO and in increasing its member-focus. "Right now, is a very interesting time for shipping, and I am very happy to be offered the opportunity to extend my contract. I can continue to lead an organisation that has the practical expertise and the scope to make a real difference on crucial industry issues, for example, the current environmental discussions and the establishing of a greenhouse gas strategy and objectives for the shipping industry," says Angus Frew.

BIMCO, Shipdex Joins for Data Digitalization

BIMCO and Shipdex have signed an agreement to support the development and exchange of technical and logistic data across the shipping community, and to include BIMCO as an executive member of Shipdex steering committee. The agreement was signed at BIMCO Head office, Copenhagen by Lars Robert Pedersen, BIMCO Deputy Secretary General and representatives from the original nine executive members – Grimaldi Group S.P.A., Mastermind Shipmanagement Ltd., Alfa Laval Tumba AB, MacGregor Group AB, Man Diesel & Turbo SE, Shipdex Consulting Ltd, Yanmar Company Ltd., G&C Shipping Ltd. and Rolls Royce PLC. BIMCO Sets Course for Digitalization

Anastasios Papagiannopoulos, CEO of Common Progress has been elected President of BIMCO has set three clear themes for his two-year presidential term. The first is to promote digitalisation across the industry. BIMCO will be working on a range of projects using convergent technologies to pursue this objective, including applying new advances in software capability to develop a brand new contract editing tool. Promoting digitalisation will be key to achieving the president’s second theme, which is to reduce the administrative burden for the ship’s master. An administrative burden that BIMCO will be working to lift further through the removal of unnecessary regulations which no longer serve a purpose for the safe operation of ships.
