Antillean Marine Shipping Corp., a long-time Miami River ocean carrier company, is expanding its business to Broward Countyâ€™s Port Everglades. The move to Port Everglades will enable Antillean to handle higher cargo volumes and transshipment opportunities with other carriers. Maersk Supply Service Wins Contract With Quadrant Energy

WFW advises GPH on Venice Cruise Port Acquisition
International law firm Watson Farley & Williams advised Global Ports Holding on the acquisition of two significant stakes in Venezia Terminal Passeggeri S.p.A made via Venezia Investimenti S.r.l., which is jointly owned in equal shares by GPH and fellow industry leaders Costa Crociere, MSC Cruises SA and Royal Caribbean. The first acquisition was of a 48% stake in APVS S.r.l. which owns 53% of Venezia Terminal Passeggeri, from Veneto Sviluppo S.p.A. The second of an 85.85% stake in Finpax S.r.l., which owns 22.18% of Venezia Terminal Passeggeri, from certain Venice port operators.
Group Ocean Orders Two Damen Workboats
Dutch based Damen Shipyards Group said it has signed a contract with Canada’s Group Ocean for the delivery of two new workboats that will provide dredging support services at an oil sands project in northern Canada. The new vessels, both Modular Multi Cats 1205, are made of standard, container-sized units that enable easy transport. The versatile Multi Cat workboat used in many sectors for operations such as towing and anchor-handling, dive support, marine engineering, offshore energy operations and for dredging and dredging support.
D-Day Ship Turned Ferry Repowered
As part of the June 6, 1944 Normandy landings, the USS LST-510 (landing ship for tanks) delivered 200 GIs, and 70 tanks and jeeps to Omaha Beach. She then anchored offshore to serve as an impromptu hospital ship for the over 150,000 Allied wounded. OSD Rolls Out New Harbor Tug Design
Offshore Ship Designers (OSD) has launched a new tug design as part of its expanding portfolio of fuel-efficient vessels. The 390 gt Azistern 2870 harbor tug has a hard chine hull form which optimizes energy-saving during transit and results in a very low wash. It has a bollard pull of 70 metric tons and a maximum speed of 12 knots. Providing accommodation for six persons, it has an overall length of 28.3 m, and a breadth of 11.5 m. The Azistern 2870 has been designed with multiple deck equipment options, the installation of which are dependent on specific end-user preference.

Coastal Marine Expands in Brazil
Coastal Marine Equipment has extended its presence into the Brazilian marketplace by teaming with Macnor Marine and Macnor Services to assist in equipment sales and service. This relationship has proven successful as Coastal Marine has been awarded the deck equipment for two Oil Spill Response Vessels’ being built in Brazil at EISA Shipyard. Each vessel will receive an ABS approved anchor windlass, two capstans and two tuggers. The equipment will be engineered, manufactured and tested at Coastal Marine’s facility located on eleven acres in Gulfport, MS. They currently manufacture a complete line of marine deck equipment including anchor windlasses, capstans, towing winches, mooring winches, anchor winches, reels, spud winches, stern rollers, tow pins and rescue boat davits.
Pirates Release Tanker and Crew in Gulf of Guinea
Product tanker MT Barrett has been released and all crew are safe following a six-day piracy incident in the Gulf of Guinea, U.K. based Union Maritime has confirmed. Union Maritime said it lost communications with its 11,999-dwt product tanker while the vessel was at anchor off Benin, West Africa on the morning of January 10, after which the company immediately implemented its emergency response plan and alerted regional maritime authorities and other vessels. A resolution process began when the pirates holding the MT Barrett made contact with the Union Maritime late on January 12.
MAIB Repots on Pipeline Damage
The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) issued the report of its investigation of an oil tanker, on June 25, 2007, dragging its anchor in the North Sea five miles east of Teesport and snagging a natural gas pipeline, resulting in material damage to the pipe, but no release of product. Due to heavy weather, the ship started to drag anchor. While weighing anchor so as to get underway, the ship’s windlass hydraulic motor exploded and the cable ran out to the bitter end. The tanker continued to drag anchor and snagged the pipeline. When the ship yawed, the anchor came free of the pipeline, but not before dislodging and damaging the pipe. The anchor later held as the ship rode over a shoal patch.
MacGregor's Deck Machinery for Sentinel Marine ERRV
MacGregor, part of Cargotec, will supply deck machinery for a new 65m emergency rescue & response vessel (ERRV) for Sentinel Marine. The ship has been designed by Focal Marine & Offshore Pte Ltd and will have a bollard pull of 100 tonnes of FOCAL 552. The order for the complete MacGregor anchor handling solution was booked into the third quarter 2015 order intake. MacGregor will supply a complete deck machinery package including a 200-tonne line pull / 300-tonne brake holding anchor handling towing winch, complete with a hydraulic spooling device, as well as Triplex shark jaws and guide pins.
ASL Marine Secures New Contracts
ASL Marine has secured new shipbuilding contracts. The contracts are for the construction of six Anchor Handling Towing/ Supply Vessels, which are used to tow and anchor oil rig platforms as well as other support services. Five of the units are expected to be completed in 2009, and the remaining unit in early 2010. Ensco Marine Sells Tug Supply Boat
Ensco Marine of Broussand, La. has sold its anchor handling tug supply boat Ensco Giant to Odyssea Marine. The vessel was built in 1976 by Mangone Shipyard in Houston, Texas and was fitted with a Smatco DAW-250 double drum waterfall anchor handling/towing winch. The vessel will be renamed Odyssea Giant and used in offshore anchor handling and towing in support of the new owner's offshore construction business both domestically and internationally. This purchase increases Odyssea's fleet to 24 vessels. The sale was brokered solely by Marcon International Inc. To-date this year, Marcon has been involved in the sale or charter of a total of 10 vessel or barges. Sales are expected on six additional units within 60 days.
Aker Marine And Vryhof Sign Letter Of Intent
Aker Marine Contractors, (AMC) a subsidiary of Aker Maritime, and Vryhof Anchors have penned a Letter of Intent to extend their cooperation agreement through their U.S.-based joint venture company - TACP/Aker LLC. According to this new agreement, AMC will sell to Vryhof the substantial assets and rights of Sea Talon Anchors, which was attained by AMC in 1988. Within their core business, Vryhof will continue to focus on the design and manufacturing of high holding power drag embedment anchors and the supply of mooring components through other alliances. AMC will concentrate on the marine contracting market, stressing on the design and installation of cost effective mooring systems for floating drilling, production and construction operations.
Tugs, PSV Ordered from Singapore-based Shipbuilder
ASL Marine Holdings Ltd., a marine group engaged in shipbuilding, ship-repair and conversion, as well as ship chartering, has secured contracts worth S$132.5 million for the construction of five vessels. The vessels comprised four 75-tonne bollard-pull Diesel Electric Hybrid Azimuth Stern Drive Tugs and one Platform Supply Vessel, scheduled for delivery between the fourth quarter of 2013 and the fourth quarter of 2014. Separately, the Group’s ship-repair division also secured conversion and upgrading works for two drilling rigs. ASL Marine owns and operates shipyards in Singapore, Batam (Indonesia) and Guangdong (China), providing a comprehensive range of marine engineering services spanning myriad sectors/ industries.
Vesper Marine to Protect LIS Underwater Cables
Vesper Marine announced that it has provided its virtual Automatic Identification System (AIS) to New York Power Authority (NYPA) to protect submerged power cables in Long Island Sound. The WatchMate Asset Protection System is the first U.S. installation of a system combining virtual AIS technology to mark subsea cables in conjunction with highly integrated and advanced software for monitoring vessel traffic patterns whichdirectly alerts vessels to avoid anchor damage to inshore submarine infrastructure assets. Ultra Anchor Gets ABS Superior Holding Certification
Quickline, an importer and distributor of quality marine gear and accessory products, announced that its Ultra Anchor meets the highest level of holding power as defined by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and has been awarded the certification of design assessment for Stainless Steel Superior Holding Power (SHP) for restricted service to a maximum anchor weight of 1500 kg (3306 lbs). SHP for restricted service is given to anchors with superior holding power of at least four times that of ordinary anchors. Using tests that conform to the ABS Anchor Sea Test Procedure performed in sand, mud and gravel at average sea depths of 32.5 feet (10 meters), the Ultra Anchor exceeds ABS requirements.
Otto Marine Signs Contracts to Supply 2 AHTS Vessels
Go Offshore, wholly-owned subsidiary of Otto Marine has entered into an agreement for two long-term anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) charter contracts worth USD25.2 million with a large oil and gas company. The two contracts are in respect of two 16,000 brake horsepower (bhp) large anchor handling tugs supply vessels. None of the Directors or controlling shareholders of the Company has any direct or indirect interest on the above transaction other than through their respective shareholding interests, direct or indirect in the Company, Go Offshore or Go Marine.
