VOSSRing Certified for Marine and Gas Applications

Photo: VOSSRing

In combination with the VOSSRing preassembly studs, VOSSRing also meets the demands placed on assembly reliability and leak prevention, as confirmed by a series of certifications such as the recent permit for gas applications. The cutting ring had already been granted certificates for the marine and offshore sectors from all major international classification societies. It is now seamlessly integrated into the fluid specialist’s complete range of couplings: they are mostly approved for both the marine and offshore sectors as well as for gas applications.

Report: Ports Lack Maintenance Support

The latest Barometer Report from Trelleborg has revealed a huge gap in the maintenance requirements of port owners and operators, and the support that suppliers are able to provide. While 75% of those surveyed think that it’s essential or important to have the supplier involved in the maintenance and audit of jetty based equipment, it is also seen as suppliers’ weakest area. Trelleborg believes the findings point to the need for more supplier involvement across the whole supply chain, with engagement essential at every stage.

Wind Farm Hi-capacity Switchgear Introduced by ABB

New giant offshore wind turbines need specialized equipment to connect to the electricity grid to minimize power losses. As offshore wind farms move towards deploying higher capacity turbines of 5MW and above, energy losses during energy transfer will escalate unless higher voltages are used for power evacuation. This is leading to increasing applications of high voltage equipment in the wind energy market. ABB's intensive R&D efforts have yielded the appropriate solution by fulfilling this demand with the new and compact HV multi-functional module PASS M00 which can be inserted and fitted in narrow spaces such as a wind tower or nacelle. the cable ending. The disconnecting switch and the earthing switch are now enclosed in a single subassembly.

RIB Technology Makes Stronger, Faster Boats

The business of building better Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) is a serious one which utilizes and combines some of the world’s most advanced materials technologies. Comptetion in the market is stiff, as manufacturer claims and counter claims would indicate. The RIBs of today are finding themselves used for a much wider spectrum of duty than perhaps just five or 10 years ago, due in large to advances in design, performance and load carrying capabilities. Manufacturers have invested many hours and dollars to ensure that today’s RIBs are constructed of increasingly better, stronger materials that enable them to dutifully perform the rigorous duty that owners demand. A perfect example of how the use of RIBs has spread is seen in the U.S.
