Clearing the Air: Alfa Laval, NMRI Test Onboard CO2 Capture

As the marine industry moves toward decarbonization, partnerships that transcend technologies and borders will increasingly play a prominent role. In this regard, Alfa Laval and Japan’s National Maritime Research Institute (NMRI) today announced positive resultes on an innovative carbon capture and storage (CCS) test.Initiated by NMRI, the CO2 capture testing project was designed to provide real-world validation of results achieved in the lab. Canada Backs Corvus Energy ESS Development

Corvus Energy Inc. said it has been awarded funding from the National Research Council of Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program for the development and expansion of the company's next generation Orca energy storage system (ESS) product line. Corvus Energy, a Canadian manufacturer of lithium-ion based battery systems, will receive up to $469,500 in non-repayable funding from the Government of Canada. This investment is made through the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) which supports numerous small and medium-sized enterprises in Canada every year in the development and commercialization of technologies.

DIVEX Wins Funding From Carbon Trust

International diving equipment technology company Divex are delighted to announce they have been selected by the Carbon Trust for support within the Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) programme for their Launch and Recovery technology. Editor’s Note

Frankly, I ‘m tired. Having passed yet another summer and now embarked upon the path of Autumn 2004, my schedule is packed not only with work and the requisite travel, but the schedule of a fourth grader and the myriad of after school and weekend activities, not to mention the pile of paperwork from school and clubs. To tell the truth, I would rather evaluate the merits of a corporate consolidation than be forced to decipher the nuances of my son’s ‘school picture’ package. But my over tiredness has little real world consequences, the worst being a late afternoon nod-off in yet another meeting, or a missed ‘snooze’ alarm in the early Dawn, meaning I’m a half hour late to work. For mariners, being tired has a completely different meaning.

EXMAR Orders Fourth LNGRV

Exmar confirms a long-term charter party with Excelerate Energy LP, the liquefied natural gas shipper and marketers based in Woodlands, Texas, of a further liquefied natural gas regasification vessel (LNGRV). The vessel will be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME) as DSME Hull No. 2254 and will be named the EXPLORER. The EXPLORER, the ownership of which will be a Exmar 80% / Excelerate Energy 20% joint venture, will be constructed using the membrane containment system together with Excelerate’s Energy Bridge™ technology and will have a capacity of approximately 150,900 m³ with delivery in the 1st quarter of 2008.

EXMAR, Excelerate Confirm Charter

EXMAR confirms a long-term charter party with Excelerate Energy LP of a further liquefied natural gas regasification vessel (LNGRV). The vessel will be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME), and will incorporate the GTT membrane containment system together with Excelerate’s Energy Bridge technology, with delivery in the 2nd quarter of 2009. Excelerate Energy LP will use the ship to deliver regasified LNG to the Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Port, and to support their application to construct a NorthEast Gateway - a deepwater port to be located offshore in Massachusetts Bay, near Boston in New England.
