Erik Thun Unveils New Lake Vanern MAX Bulk Carrier Series

Sweden’s Erik Thun Group has unveiled its next generation battery-hybrid, dry cargo vessel series being built at Shipyard Ferus Smit in the Netherlands.The Lake Vanern Max is hybrid, with a battery pack for peak shaving and power smoothening, reducing the reliance on auxiliary engines for electricity generation. (MES) completed and delivered a 56,000 dwt type bulk carrier MV Devon Bay (MES Hull No. 1843) at its Tamano Works on July 1, 2013 to “K” Line Bulk Shipping (U.K.) Ltd. This vessel is a handy-max type bulk carrier of 56,000 dwt with a large cargo hold capacity over 70,000 m3 and marks the 158th ship of its series. This 56,000 dwt type bulk carrier series of MES is widely called Mitsui’s 56 and is highly appreciated in the market, the company said. More than 170 units of this series have been ordered from MES. 1. The vessel is designed in accordance with IACS Common Structural Rules. As a result, structural safety and operational flexibility are improved.

New Company's Bulker Design Saves Fuel

Finnish ship designer Foreship's new company, Foreship Bluetech, announce an economical bulk ship design series. Foreship BlueTech Ltd. is a company founded by Foreship Ltd. and key employees of BlueTech with Foreship Ltd. as the largest shareholder. BlueTech specializes in efficient and eco-friendly cargo ship standard designs, while all other business areas remain at Foreship Ltd. Mr. Petri Hakulinen, former SVP of Business Development at Foreship Ltd. will head the new company, and Mr. Matti Huhtala and Mr. Pekka Jauhiainen will move to BlueTech, as Engineering Manager and Project Manager respectively. Foreship BlueTech Ltd. has developed an efficient CSR bulk carrier series, called the Sea Dragon.

Deltamarin Wins Ship Design Order

The latest additions are for a series of three firm ships plus options of B.Delta37 design as open hatch general cargo ship, which will be built at the Chinese CSC Jinling Shipyard. This will bring the number of firm B.Delta37 newbuilding orders to 21 units and the total number of newbuilding orders of different types of B.Delta designs to 38 for various shipowners. These about 38,300 tdw general cargo carriers have been ordered by the German shipowner Oldendorff Carriers GmbH & Co. The design is an amended version of the standard B.Delta37 design into an open hatch configuration. It features 40 tons SWL electro-hydraulic cranes, ice class 1C and is fully logsfitted. Cargo capacity 48,500 cu. Deadweight 38,300 metric tons at 10.5 m scantling draught.

First of Innovative Bulk Carrier Series Delivered

DY4001 is the lead ship of the CROWN 63 series, a series of 63,500-DWT bulk carriers, which recently completed its sea trial items made its return voyage on February 17. According the shipyard, the vessel’s speed trial was proven beyond its design prediction and met all the guarantee. DY4001 was built by Dayang Shipyard, designed by Sinopacific Group Design, is owned by SETAF and is classed by Bureau Veritas. Compared to the CROWN 58 58,000 bulk carrier series, CROWN 63 has a 9% increased deadweight and reduced fuel consumption by 13% at the same service speed. Mr.
