Subsea7 Upgrades BWTS at Optimarin

An Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) installed on Seven Pacific, a Subsea7 vessel, in 2015 has been upgraded to meet the ballast water treatment system (BWTS) requirements of the United States Coast Guard (USCG).The Norway-based BWTS provider said in a press release that it originally installed its UV-based technology onboard the advanced offshore construction and pipe-laying vessel in 2015. Since that point the 667-m3 market proven system has, according to Seven Pacific Chief Engineer Oddgeir Refvik, been running smoothly, with minimal maintenance and easy operation.Refvik described the upgrade as “very straightforward”. Optimarin Demonstrates Total System Reliability

Environmentally friendly and compliant BWT technology company  Optimarin gave a demonstration of its long-term system reliability onboard Neptune Subsea’s IMR vessel Larissa in the same week that a report from ABS revealed problems with almost half of installed ballast water treatment (BWT) systems. Optimarin has installed more than 300 of its systems worldwide, with over 500 units ordered. USCG-approved Optimarin Sees Order Influx

Optimarin has signed a new agreement with Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding (FBS) in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. for the delivery of two 500 m³/h capacity Optimarin Ballast Systems (OBS). The contract, identical to one secured last year, comes at a busy time for the Norwegian ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist, which has seen order enquiries go “through the roof” since securing U.S. Coast Guard type approval approval in December. The fresh agreement will see both systems installed on a 155,000-barrel capacity clean products barge, with delivery scheduled for August 2018.

Optimarin BWTS Completes USCG Testing

Ballast water treatment (BWT) system specialist Optimarin said it has completed the U.S. Coast Guard’s (USCG) environmental test and all land-based and shipboard testing for marine, brackish and fresh water. It is understood to be the first supplier of UV-based BWT technology to satisfy the USCG’s CMFDA testing criteria. Optimarin has specialized in environmentally friendly UV treatment technology for the past 22 years, installing the world’s first ever commercial system in 2000 on the cruise ship Princess Regal.

Optimarin Reports Surge in BWTS Orders

With its latest succession of contracts won, ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist Optimarin reports it has now sold more than 400 of its environmentally friendly UV-based systems. Optimarin said 2016 has been a boom year for a company that installed the first ever commercial BWT system back in 2000. Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) orders have been confirmed with Atlantis Tankers (10 units) and Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group (nine), while the firm also made its first foray into fishing, with a contract for the Fisherman’s Finest vessel America’s Finest.

Optimarin Cements Offshore BWT Market Share

Ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist Optimarin says over 50% of its system orders now placed for PSVs, AHTS and associated, advanced service vessels. According to CEO Tore Andersen, the last six months alone have seen 16 new agreements signed, pushing the number of offshore system orders beyond the 160-unit mark. Norway’s Golden Energy Offshore is the latest firm to opt for Optimarin’s market proven system, with units ordered for two ULSTEIN designed PX121H PSVs currently under construction at the Nantong Rainbow yard in China.

Hyde Marine, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Calgon Carbon Corporation, has been selected as a strategic supply partner for ballast water treatment (BWT) systems by Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) for use on ECO’s fleet of vessels. Damen Shipyards announced it has established three strategic partnership agreements with major Ballast Water Treatment (BWT) system suppliers. Hyde Marine to Implement NIOZ System Testing

Hyde Marine, Inc. announced today it will begin using a new ballast water test system, B-box, recently made available from the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) to help ballast water treatment (BWT) technology companies conduct accurate analysis regarding the concentrations of chemicals or organisms present in ballast water. Hyde Marine, Goltens Enter Engineering Agreement

OceanSaver BWT Earns USCG and ISO Approval

OceanSaver has achieved a certification double, with the news that its Mark II Ballast Water Treatment (BWT) system has achieved U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) approval, while the company itself has achieved ISO 9001:2008 certification. Based in Drammen, Norway, OceanSaver provides efficient and reliable BWT systems for medium and large vessels, such as VLCCs, LNG Carriers and a variety of tankers and bulk carriers, amongst others. The USCG’s  Alternate Management System (AMS) approval means that vessels fitted with OceanSaver systems - combining effective and reliable filtration with high-performance electrodialytic disinfectant treatment – are free to discharge ballast water in U.S. ports. Newbuilds constructed after December 2013 must have USCG compliant systems to perform this task.

US Oil Major Chooses OceanSaver BWT Systems

Ocean Saver Wins Greek BWT Orders

The two 320,000 dwt vessels will join Almi’s fleet in July 2013 and November 2014 and are designed to meet highest environmental standards. Almi Tankers currently manages two Aframax LR2 vessels and three newly-built Suezmax crude oil carriers and is expecting the delivery of seven more Suezmaxes and two VLCCs by November 2014. The Greek company says it chose OceanSaver after a thorough evaluation of the company’s Mark I and Mark II BWT technology and competing suppliers. “OceanSaver BWT systems are backed by DNV’s Type Approval Program... (which) guarantees detailed evaluation of every aspect of vessel safety,” a spokesman said. The Almi VLCCs are being built to ABS class and will be fitted with a 2 x 3000m3/h type approved Mark II OceanSaver system.
