To maintain and expand its container fleet, Hapag-Lloyd, a global container line, has purchased 3,700 Star Cool Integrated containers as part of their recent reefer investments from Maersk Container Industry (MCI). Of these, 1,000 Star Cool units will be chilled by the environmentally friendly R513A refrigerant system with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than 56 percent of the commonly used R134A refrigerant. NYK has placed an order for 4,700 additional brand-new 40-foot refrigerated (reefer) containers, and the delivery of the new containers commenced in November. NYK procured 5,500 of the same type of containers last year, and the average age of company’s fleet of over 40,000 reefer containers has now fallen to four years. The new order includes 600 Controlled Atmosphere (CA) containers. The advanced technology of these CA units ensures the freshness of perishable agricultural products, such as fruits and vegetables during long ocean transits. The CA technology regulates not only the temperature within the reefer unit but also the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels.

NYK has placed an order for 5,500 technologically advanced 40-foot refrigerated (reefer) containers, which are more efficient and reliable than older equipment. Delivery of the new units has already commenced.   This strategic investment will ensure that NYK continues to operate one of the newest and most competitive reefer container fleets in the liner industry.   The new order includes 700 Controlled Atmosphere (CA) containers.
