Lockheed Martin Seeking Atlantic Canada Companies for Shipbuilding Projects
Lockheed Martin Canada, a major supplier of systems, software and professional services to the Royal Canadian Navy, will be in Saint John, Halifax and St. John’s this week to meet with companies that could become partners and suppliers on shipbuilding projects, including the Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships and other future programs. In each location, Lockheed Martin officials will provide a briefing on how companies can prepare and position themselves for shipbuilding work through major contractors and then will conduct a series of one-on-one meetings to learn about the capabilities of many New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador based companies.
Canadian Maritime Engineering Buys Breton Gray
Canadian Maritime Engineering of Dartmouth Nova Scotia announced the purchase of Brenton Gray Boatyards of Sambro Head. Located near the approaches to Halifax Harbour, Brenton Gray Shipyard has a long history of ship repair and two marine slipways, the largest capable of lifting a 300 ton vessel. CME has plans to expand and develop the existing facilities and waterfront site adjacent to the Port of Halifax. Canadian Maritime Engineering won the NATO supplier excellence award in 2008, and operates, coast to coast, with branches in Victoria, Sarnia, and over 60,000 sq ft of modern facilities at three locations in Nova Scotia and is part of a Canadian owned company with over 300 skilled tradesmen and approximately 100 in Nova Scotia.
Victoria Shipyards Acquires CME Assets
Washington Marine Group announced that it has acquired substantially all of the Victoria-based assets of Canadian Maritime Engineering (CME). CME has operated a ship repair business at the Esquimalt Graving dock since 2004. The CME assets include a large shop, shipyard machinery and equipment, which Victoria Shipyards (VSL) will utilize in the execution of the Frigate Life Extension program (FELEX) for the Canadian Navy. In addition to the CME assets, VSL will be purchasing a number of other mobile buildings in the coming months to provide the necessary facilities to support the FELEX team and to efficiently serve customer.
