(Photo: Shipbuilder)

How does shipbuilding and ship design firm Ulstein go about successful and suitable ship design? Facing this challenge on a daily basis are Ulstein Design & Solutions BV’s project manager and naval architects Bart Daman, Ko Stroo and Dolf Manschot, whose knowledge and experience are key to the development of complex vessels for a diverse range of applications and working environments, often in a relatively small period of time and for ships that have never been designed nor built before. “For sharing and storing knowledge, the maritime sector still often uses Word and Excel.” Daman said.

Bender Delivers Vessel to Otto Candies

M/V Juanita Candies was successfully delivered to Otto Candies, Inc. The vessel immediately departed Mobile en route to Fouchon, La. to go on long-term charter to Conoco in support of their deepwater drilling program. Both Agnes Candies and Juanita Candies have gone to work on high profile, deep water drilling projects, which is exactly the kind of work they were designed to perform. Feedback from the Candies operations people confirm the vessels are performing their mission well. Their customers comment positively in regard to the vessels' fast cargo pumping rates, station keeping ability and stability in high seas. The Agnes Candies crew reports the first time the vessel was called upon to unload in 10-12 ft. seas in the d/p mode, they experienced heavy rolling in the beam sea.

His passing also opened our eyes to the breadth and depth of an individual whose influence and impact extended far beyond the sometimes insular world of maritime commerce.
