Québec, Indiana Partner for Great Lakes Shipping

Québec Minister of International Relations and Francophonie Christine St-Pierre and Indiana Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann today announced that the Province of Québec and the State of Indiana will launch a new partnership to intensify their collaboration in Great Lakes/St. Lawrence System shipping and maritime economic development. Recent studies have shown that for the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence region, maritime transportation accounts for $34 billion in annual economic returns and more than 225,000 jobs.

Clean Air Action Plan Air Quality Award Winners Announced

NICE Surveillance for Transnet Port Terminals

On Feb. 5, NICE Systems (NASDAQ: NICE), announced that Transnet Port Terminals, the largest cargo terminal operator in South Africa, is expanding NICE's IP video surveillance environment at Durban Car Terminal and Ngqura, for a total of five port terminals. The new project is part of a national security upgrade initiative designed to improve security at South Africa's commercial ports and ensure compliance with the government's Key Points and Strategic Installations regulations for the security of national critical infrastructure sites. Transnet Port Terminals, South Africa's largest cargo terminal operator, operates 16 terminals at seven of the country's busiest commercial ports.

MSC Launches New Nassau Service from Port Everglades

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is introducing a new service from Broward County’s Port Everglades to Nassau, Bahamas, planned for three weekly sailings. The new MSC Nassau, Bahamas service is targeting increased business from South Florida to the Bahamas with an eye on future transshipments through Port Everglades for cargo originating in other global markets. Port officials estimate that MSC’s new Nassau service could generate an additional 20,000 TEUs annually for Port Everglades. MSC cargo is handled through Port Everglades Terminals (PET), which is Port Everglades’ second largest containerized cargo terminal operator. Port Everglades officials recently greeted the arrival of the first ship in the rotation, the 585 TEU, 7,565-ton MSC Aures.
