USCG MSC issues BWMS Type Approval to Cathelco

The Marine Safety Center issued the 20th Coast Guard Ballast Water Management System Type Approval Certificate to Cathelco Ltd, after a detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval application determined the system met the requirements of 46 CFR 162.060.The treatment principle of the Evolution BWMS consists of filtration with UV treatment during uptake and discharge. This approval covers models with maximum treatment rated capacities between 55 m3/h and 1,500 m3/h.A complete list of ballast water treatment systems that have been approved or have type approval applications currently under review can be found on the Marine Safety Center webpage. Redacted copies of all completed type approval certificates are also available.

Marine Safety Center Receives 21st BWMS Type Approval Application

The Coast Guard Marine Safety Center received its twenty-first application for Ballast Water Management System type approval for the Cathelco Evolution Ballast Water Management System manufactured by Cathelco Ltd.MSC will review the application for compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations in 46 CFR 162.060. Once it has been determined that the application meets the requirements, the MSC will issue a type approval certificate.BWMS type approval applications and approval certificates are posted on MSC’s website.

HEM takeover Makes Cathelco Water Treatment Leader

Cathelco, the world leading manufacturers of equipment for ships, have acquired Hydro-Electrique Marine (HEM) the French specialists in desalinators and water treatment systems. The acquisition will make Cathelco one of the largest producers of shipboard water treatment systems in Europe and the premier supplier to the superyacht industry. “The new venture will operate under the name of Cathelco HEM emphasising the strength of two well known brand names and creating a stronger presence in the water treatment market”, said Justin Salisbury, managing director of Cathelco Ltd. Cathelco already have experience of the desalinator market having purchased Seafresh Desalinators in 2010, a small company serving the UK market which they transformed into an international exporter of watermakers.

Cathelco BWTS Receives AMS Approval

Cathelco Ltd. has received Alternate Management Systems (AMS) acceptance from the U.S. Coast Guard for their ballast water treatment system. AMS acceptance is a temporary designation given to ballast water treatment systems approved by a foreign administration. It enables BWT systems to be used on vessels for a period of up to five years, while the treatment system undergoes approval testing to Coast Guard standards. “This is an important milestone in achieving full U.S. Coastguard Type Approval.

Cathelco Protects New USCG Cutters

A series of fast response cutters being built for the U.S. Coast Guard will be protected against hull corrosion and marine pipework bio-fouling with a system manufactured by Cathelco Ltd. The Sentinel Class cutters, measuring 154 ft in length and capable of speeds of more than 28 knots, are being constructed at the Bollinger Shipyard’s facility in Lockport, La. The order for the Cathelco equipment has been won by Russ Equipment Co. Inc., Cathelco’s agent based in New Orleans.
