Ineos Storage Tanks at Antwerp Port

During the past month a pusher barge moored in the Antwerp port area on the Left bank of the Scheldt carrying four large storage tanks each 50 metres long. These cylinders came from a specialist tank builder in Germany and were carried down the Rhine to Antwerp. After being unloaded they continued their journey by night by special road transport to the Ineos Oxide site in Zwijndrecht. Chemical Tank Overloaded Near Elizabeth River

U.S. Coast Guard, state and local first responders are responding Wednesday to an overloaded tank containing sodium hydroxide in Norfolk along the Elizabeth River. Norfolk Fire Department contacted Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads command center personnel at approximately 7:30 a.m., reporting a chemical tank was overloaded at a Kinder-Morgan terminal on the eastern branch of the Elizabeth River. Gunderson to Build Tank Barge for Kirby

The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. announced that its Gunderson Marine division has received an order from Kirby Offshore Marine to build an articulated oceangoing oil and chemical tank barge, with an option for a second unit, to meet growing demand. The state-of-the-art 578' tank barge is one of the largest in Gunderson’s marine history, and has an 185,000 barrel carrying capacity. This order, along with awards being finalized, will bring Greenbrier’s current marine backlog to about $70 million. Construction on the Kirby barge will begin in June 2014, with completion scheduled in 2015. The outlook for transportation of goods by oceangoing barge is strong, and Greenbrier, through Gunderson Marine, said it is well-positioned to meet new barge demand.

PPG Unveils Phenguard Pro Tank Coating

PPG Protective and Marine Coatings has unveiled Phenguard Pro, a tank coating system that is intended to offer benefits for both shipyards and ship-owners. For shipyards and at installation, the coating system provides potential efficiency gains of over 20 percent compared to three-layer coating systems, PPG said. For owners it provides the wide chemical resistance and long carriage time of more than 3,400 cargoes, delivering maximum flexibility to the product tanker trades, according to the manufacturer.

Ferguson Group Australia, global specialist in offshore DNV 2.7-1/EN12079 containers, tanks, refrigerated modules, engineering workspace and accommodation modules, has introduced a range of chemical services from its new base in Gap Ridge, Karratha WA. The purpose built base in Gap Ridge, Karratha was designed with integral chemical storage and handling facilities. Gap Ridge is within easy reach of ports, reducing the time taken to transport chemicals offshore.

ATB Barge Project for Murray & Associates

Murray & Associates, LLC has been commissioned to deliver a comprehensive design package for an 185,000 BBL Chemical Tank Barge new construction project. The ABS SafeHull barge is an articulated tug and barge type utilizing an Intercon Model 50 coupler system. It has a length of 584 ft and a breadth of 78 ft. Murray & Associates has been engaged from concept to detailed design, encompassing structure, stability, piping and mechanical systems, arrangements drawings as well as 3D structure and pipe lofting.

Hoover Container Solutions Unveils Asset Tracer

Hoover Container Solutions, a subsidiary of Hoover Group Inc., and a global provider of chemical tanks, cargo carrying units and related products and services, has unveiled its new Liquitrac Tracer, a battery-powered GPS unit that can be easily attached to any of Hoover’s comprehensive product line offerings to track asset location – domestic or internationally, even hazardous environments. The ATEX-certified unit is equipped to support calling-based movement, meaning immediate notification of movement of a GPS or GPS-equipped unit.

Aker Brattvaag Acquires Romanian Yard

Norway’s Aker Brattvaag AS, a unit of Aker RGI signed a contract with Romania's main privatization agency to acquire a majority stake in a local shipyard. A statement from the State Ownership Fund (FPS) said that under the contract, the FPS sold its 69.999 percent stake in Santierul Naval Tulcea in a deal worth some $22.6 million, including investments. Two-year investments, mainly in technology and environmental protection, represents some 60 percent of the value of the deal. Under the deal, Aker also assumes the shipyard's debts, mainly to banks and suppliers, of $12.1 million. Santierul Naval Tulcea, based in the Danube port town of Tulcea, has a share capital of $6 million.

Stolt-Nielsen and Oiltanking Announce Joint Venture

Stolt-Nielsen announced an agreement in principle between Stolthaven Terminals BV, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SNSA, and Oiltanking GmbH whereby Stolthaven Terminals BV will acquire a 50% interest in Oiltanking Antwerp N.V. for a total consideration of approximately $64 million, which is paid partly in cash and partly by assumption of outstanding debts. The agreement is subject to regulatory approval and will be retroactive to January 1, 2006. ABS Releases Chemical Tanker e-Learning Package

ABS, a provider of maritime classification services, launched Chem-eL, a specialized training package designed to support safety and competence in chemical tanker operations. Chem-eL is a sector-specific e-learning marine product developed in accordance with the requirements stated in the International Maritime Organization's International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers and the relevant IMO Model Course. Developed by ABS in cooperation with Malaysian Maritime Academy (ALAM), a subsidiary of the MISC Bhd.

OEG Offshore Expands Rental Fleet

Global offshore equipment firm OEG Offshore said it is investing record funds to expand its rental fleet. As a result of market demand for NORSOK workspace modules, Ferguson Norge, specialists in the rental of DNV 2.7-1 / EN 12079 certified offshore containers, refrigeration/freezer modules, workspace modules and accommodation solutions to the global offshore energy industry, said it has expanded its NORSOK accredited range to include a enhanced series of Z-015 workshops. The range has been developed in response to customer requests for NORSOK products. The workshops have been modified to qualify for NORSOK accreditation and Ferguson Norge has already been taking orders for them.

Hoover Container Solutions Opens Facility in Brazil

Hoover Container Solutions, a global provider of chemical tanks, cargo carrying units and related products and services, opened its new service facility in Brazil. The wash line facility allows Hoover to provide expanded cleaning services while handling all intermediate bulk containers (IBCs), ISO tanks and offshore equipment destined for oil and gas platforms, mining sites, islands and supply bases in the region, Hoover said. Hoover’s new facility is equipped with experienced staff licensed to clean a wide variety of hazardous and nonhazardous materials.

BAE Systems Delivers Tug to Seabulk Tankers

Built at BAE Systems’ Jacksonville, Fla. shipyard, the new tug Sea Power has delivered the tug Sea Power to Seabulk Tankers, Inc. to be used to enhance the shipper’s Jones Act coastal operation, powering barges that transport chemical and petroleum products between U.S. ports. Sea Power is a 141-foot-long, 12,000-brake horsepower, twin-screw tug that will work in tandem with a high-specification, 30,000 deadweight tonnage chemical tank barge as an articulated tug and barge unit. BAE Systems and Guido Perla & Associates, Inc., of Seattle, Washington, designed the vessel.

Heavy Cargo Barge 'Prometheus' Launched at Gunderson Yard

Brokers Marcon International were in attendance and inform of the launch of the 300’ x 100’ x 20’ heavy deck cargo barge “Prometheus” (Hull No. 104) built and designed by Gunderson Marine, Portland, Oregon, for Ulysses LLC. The new barge was christened by Mimsy Huger Lindner and promptly and safely launched to the sound of the swirling bagpipes of the Clan Macleay Pipe Band. “Prometheus” is a double raked ABS +A1 Barge with recessed bitts, a parabolic bow rake and about a 29,572ft2 clear deck.

Crowley to Buy Three Tankers from SeaRiver

Crowley Alaska Tankers, LLC, has signed an agreement to purchase three tankers from SeaRiver Maritime Inc., and charter them back to SeaRiver under varying multi-year terms. The deal is subject to regulatory approval. Included in the acquisition are the tankers Liberty Bay and Eagle Bay, each of which have a capacity of 800,000 barrels and transport crude from Alaska to West Coast refineries; and the tanker SR American Progress, which has a capacity of 342,000 barrels and transports refined petroleum between U.S. gulf and East Coast ports. Crowley said it will now work with regulators to obtain the necessary regulatory approvals to serve the Alaska and West Coast markets.
