Morrison Acquires Pipelay and Diving Fleet

The provider of  comprehensive services to oil and maritime companies,  Chet Morrison Contractors (Morrison) has acquired two pipelay/construction barges and a saturation diving system from an undisclosed seller in a move to double the size of its pipelay barge fleet.Louisiana based energy services company said in a press release that the first asset it acquired is LB Super Chief, a 265 ft x 72 ft ABS-classed pipelay barge with accommodations for 93 personnel. It is outfitted with a 100 KIP pipe tensioner, is U.S. flagged and provides extended capabilities for pipe size and water depth lay and recovery.It also acquired DLB Subsea Vision, a 415 ft x 100 ft ABS-classed pipelay and construction barge with accommodations for up to 140 personnel.

Harkand Names Brown to Gulf of Mexico Management Team

Global inspection, repair, maintenance (IRM) and light construction company Harkand informs it has made a key appointment by securing Mike Brown as general manager of diving services in North America. A U.S. Navy veteran, Brown has considerable experience of commercial diving in the offshore oil and gas sector having held number of senior positions in a career spanning more than 35 years. He was most recently working with Chet Morrison Contractors as general manager of the offshore construction division.

Chet Morrison Develops Subsea Cutter: SHARC

Chet Morrison Contractors has developed a subsea cutter that they say offers improvement over existing technologies. SHARC (Subsea Hydraulic Abrasive Rotating Cutter) was developed to make subsea P&A work safer for divers by eliminating the need for hand jetting and reducing the time divers spend under water performing. In addition, the manufacturer claims that SHARC reduces overall job time by 60 percent and can be deployed by Chet Morrison’s 240-foot, four-point DSV Joanne Morrison, thus avoiding the higher cost of larger spreads.

Chet Morrison Contractors hired industry veteran Metin Gezer as Vice President of Land Construction Services. Gezer is one of several recent leadership additions who will provide support and infrastructure to foster the growth of the company’s construction services for both onshore and marine environments. Gezer brings over 25 years of planning and operations experience in the oil and gas industry, both domestically and internationally, and has a background in midstream, refining, petro-chemicals, pipelines, industrial gases and specialty chemicals.

Shipbuilding CEO takes SCIA’s top honor

According to reports, Gary Chouest was honored with the South Central Industrial Association’s award Thursday night. As president and CEO of Edison Chouest Offshore, Gary Chouest’s leadership has grown the two-vessel shrimping operation founded in 1960 by his father into a worldwide company whose more than 130 vessels are well recognized, SCIA President Chet Morrison told the crowd of about 400 gathered at Cypress Columns Wednesday night. The vessels, all built and owned by Edison Chouest Offshore, are designed for its client-companies’ needs. Most are built at its North American Shipbuilding facility in Larose, but also at North American Fabricators in Houma.
