INPEX Selects NAPA for LNG Carrier Fleet

Japan's largest oil and gas exploration and production company INPEX Corporation has installed ClassNK-NAPA GREEN for monitoring operations on three of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.NAPA said that Inpex awarded a deal to the company for the provision of a solution for monitoring and follow-up of ship operations on two LNG carriers built to service the Ichthys project and one LNG carrier for Shell’s Prelude FLNG project.With the core motivation of accurately verifying the technical performance of these highly complex carriers, INPEX chose ClassNK-NAPA GREEN for the combination of NAPA’s LNG carrier design understanding and market leading performance monitoring software.The Oceanic Breeze…

MOL Chooses NAPA for 80 of Its Time-Chartered Bulk Carriers

MRV Made Easy: NAPA Updates Performance Monitoring System

Performance Monitoring, Verification Drives Orders, Investments for Norsepower

Finnish engineering company, Norsepower today announced that it has received €3 million in investment from a syndicate led by venture capital fund Power Fund III and has installed a second rotor sail on Bore’s Ro-Ro vessel MS Estraden. Data analysis and verification by NAPA, the leading maritime data analysis, software and services provider, has been fundamental to these developments by proving the effectiveness of Norsepower’s technology. A single Norsepower Rotor Sail was installed on the 9,700 DWT Ro-Ro carrier in early 2015. Although the weather conditions were largely calm over the three-month trial, data analysis from vessel performance monitoring and verification software, ClassNK-NAPA GREEN, demonstrated that the rotor sail delivered clear and significant savings of 2.5%.

Namura Shipbuilding introduces ClassNK-NAPA GREEN

The fleet performance management and optimization system ClassNK-NAPA GREEN jointly developed by leading classification society ClassNK (Chairman and President: Noboru Ueda) and maritime-software, services and data analysis company NAPA has been introduced to a newbuilding by Namura Shipbuilding. The move was spearheaded by Namura Shipbuilding based on the shipowner’s acceptance. ClassNK-NAPA GREEN collects voyage data from the VDR, data logger and other onboard devices and provides high precision performance analysis through its self-learning Dynamic Performance Model. Namura Shipbuilding’s introduction of ClassNK-NAPA GREEN aims to use voyage data and performance analysis of actual voyage speed, draft and full cargo load performance to provide feedback for optimized ship design.

Norsepower’s Rotor Sail Solution Successfully Tested

Norsepower Oy Ltd. and Bore Ltd today carried out successful sea trial of Norsepower’s Rotor Sail Solution, a new wind propulsion technology for ships. The sea trials, verified by NAPA and supported by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, confirm fuel savings of 2.6% using a single small Rotor Sail on a route in the North Sea. With these fuel savings, the technology has a payback period of 4 years. Based on the trials, Norsepower and Bore believe that a full system on Estraden with two rotors has the potential to deliver 5% efficiency savings on an ongoing basis. Norsepower forecasts savings of 20% for vessels with multiple, large rotors traveling in favourable wind routes. The Norsepower Rotor Sail Solution was installed on the 9,700 DWT Ro-Ro carrier MS Estraden.

NAPA Expands Design Tool to Streamline Class Approval

Maritime software house NAPA released a new application to extend the NAPA Statutory Compliance solution with NAPA Release 2015.1. Evergreen Installs ClassNK-NAPA Green Software

Evergreen Line has commenced installation of ClassNK-NAPA GREEN software on chartered container vessels. At the conclusion of a competitive tender process, ClassNK-NAPA GREEN software - developed by NAPA, global maritime software house and classification society ClassNK - was chosen to provide a total solution for planning, monitoring and optimizing ship operations. Enabling greater understanding of the operation of its chartered fleet to improve efficiency is the key driver behind the adoption of ClassNK-NAPA GREEN, the developer said.

K Line to Expand Use of Eco-efficiency Software

NAPA and ClassNK announced a deal with Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. (K Line) to install an eco-efficiency and operational optimization solution, ClassNK-NAPA GREEN, on three additional vessels. The vessels will be fitted with the software in June 2015 after the ClassNK-NAPA GREEN suite of systems proved itself on a trial installation early in 2014. The self-learning component of ClassNK-NAPA GREEN, the dynamic performance model was also found to be accurate during the same trial.

ClassNK & NAPA tie-up to Improve Ship Design

ClassNK and leading global maritime software company NAPA have announced a new joint project to reduce the time and cost of designing vessels in accordance with the new IACS harmonised Common Structural Rules. The new project will enhance the data linkage between ClassNK’s PrimeShip-HULL(HCSR) design support software with NAPA’s 3D model based integrated design software NAPA Steel greatly improving the efficiency of the ship design process and reducing the cost of designing vessels in accordance with the new rules. Adopted in 2013, the IACS harmonised CSR will be applied to all tankers over 150m and all bulk carriers over 90m contracted after 1 July 2015.

Vessel performance monitoring and optimization solution ClassNK-NAPA GREEN was named the maritime industry’s top IT system by earning the IT Solutions Award at the International Bulk Journal (IBJ) Awards held at the Beurs-World Trade Center in Rotterdam on 17 November. ClassNK Acquires Maritime Software House NAPA

Classification society ClassNK agreed to acquire maritime software house NAPA in a deal that the classification society said aims to improve safety and performance for the whole maritime industry. According to ClassNK, the acquisition will enhance the success and capabilities of both organizations. For ClassNK, which has worked with NAPA for nearly 10 years, the deal is a chance to expand and improve the wide range of services it offers to shipowners and shipyards, whilst also providing NAPA with the support to accelerate expansion of existing operations and access new markets.

Finland's Bore to Install ClassNK Efficiency Software

Shipping company Bore Ltd. to install ClassNK-NAPA GREEN ship efficiency software aboard their 13,625 dwt Ro-Ro vessel 'M/V Bore Song'. Wan Hai Lines Chooses ClassNK-Napa Green

ClassNK and maritime software company Napa have announced that Taiwan-based Wan Hai Lines Ltd. has chosen ClassNK-Napa Green ship efficiency software for use on Wan Hai 516, a 4680 TEU vessel delivered by CSBC in April 2013.
