Kiel Port Marks 2,500th Cruise Ship Visit

Kiel is today (Saturday, 13th Aug.) celebrating the arrival of its 2,500th cruise ship visitor Cunard Line’s “Queen Elizabeth”, which berthed this morning to mark the event. The President of the City of Kiel, Hans-Werner Tovar paid tribute to the occasion during a reception at the Ostseekai Cruise Terminal. “2500 visits are an enormous accomplishment and one achieved over many years of partnership and co-operation involving the port itself, shipping companies and service providers. I am proud that Kiel is one of the leading cruise shipping ports in northern Europe”, he said. To commemorate the 2500th visit, an artist’s wooden sculpture of a pile mooring was unveiled at the terminal. Dr Dirk Claus, Managing Director of the Port of Kiel (Seehafen Kiel GmbH & Co.

BMT’s Simulation Tool Supports the Three Queens’ Visit to the Mersey

BMT ARGOSS, a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, has assisted Liverpool Pilots in its planning for the visit of Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria and Queen Mary 2 to Liverpool in May 2015. Liverpool Pilots have used BMT’s ‘REMBRANDT’, real and fast time simulation and training tool to undertake detailed planning of how the three vessels will manoeuvre in close proximity in the River Mersey, at the narrowest point close to the Cunard Building downtown. Cunard's Three Queens will visit the Mersey as part of the celebrations to mark the 175th anniversary of the famous cruise line.

QM2 Passes Sea Trials

Cunard Line's flagship Queen Mary 2 returned from the sea after having completed her sea trials with flying colours. The largest, longest, tallest, widest, and at - $780-million - the most expensive passenger liner ever built underwent four days of rigorous testing of her power, manoeuvrability and vibration levels off the Brittany coast. Queen Mary 2 Sets Sail with GE LM2500s

The world’s largest transatlantic liner, the Queen Mary 2, set sail on its maiden voyage powered by two GE LM2500+ aeroderivative gas turbine-generator sets and four diesel generator-sets. The new flagship of the British merchant fleet, owned by Cunard Line, will take 14 days to sail from Southampton in the United Kingdom to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. A special highlight of Queen Mary 2’s inaugural schedule will be her maiden eastbound crossing from New York on April 25 as both Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth 2 sail in tandem.

QM2 to Arrive in NYC

When QE2 arrives in New York on 25 April and berths next to Queen Mary 2 it will be the first time since March 1940 that two Cunard Queens have berthed together in the port. The send-off will include fireworks as both vessels anchor off the Statue of Liberty. Cunard's Queen Victoria Floated Out

Special ceremonies at Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard near Venice were held to mark the float out of Cunard's newest Queen, ocean liner Queen Victoria. During the float out, the valves will be opened and the dry-dock flooded for the ship to meet the sea for the first time marking the initial introduction of the new Cunard Queen to the water. This significant occasion marks the beginning of the final construction stages for the $522m sister ship to the lines flagship Queen Mary 2 and grande dame of the seas QE2. Ryan, who will be guest of honour at the event. Maureen joined Cunard in 1963 and is the only known person to have served on all Cunard Queens: Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, QE2 and Queen Mary 2.
