Citywide Ferry by Hornblower Takes Center Stage
The construction of up to 20 new ferries for New York City is arguably the most exciting maritime new construction project in the U.S. this year. Last month we visited with Cameron Clark, Corporate Vice President, Development and Special Projects, Hornblower, the project manager for the new Citywide Ferry by Hornblower fleet, who discussed the challenges and opportunities ahead. Hornblower has, in the span of 36 years, become the force in the U.S. ferry market, with more than 2,000 employees and 20 million passenger trips annually, including a cumulative staff of 700 in the New York City area.
UASC Expands Further in S.America
United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) announced the opening of a new joint-venture agency in Uruguay and participation in this year’s Intermodal South America exhibition, opening today in São Paulo and running until 7th April. These initiatives are part of the carrier’s ambitious growth plans and customer-focused strategy, and highlight the importance of the South American market for UASC. Following several initiatives including significant investment in new reefer units and a cooperation agreement with Hamburg Süd opening up new services to East Coast South America, UASC aims to highlight its expanded service during Intermodal South America 2016, the international exhibition for logistics, cargo transportation and international trade.
UASC Places Order of 3500 Reefer Containers
United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), a leading container shipping line and emerging global carrier, has ordered another 3,500 reefer containers, after ordering 2,000 units from Japan’s Daikin Industries in January, says a report in JOC. The order marks the second milestone in the expansion of UASC’s reefer services and reiterates the company’s ongoing investment in the most cutting-edge, energy-efficient solutions for the carriage of frozen and chilled cargoes. According to a press statement, Gareth Madsen, Head of Reefer Management at UASC said, “In terms of quality, performance and reliability, our latest reefer order comprises one of the industry’s most eco-efficient and reliable units.
UASC Enters New Phase of Expansion

UASC Launches New Europe-US Service
United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has launched a North Europe - US East Coast (NEU1) service as well as an order of 3,500 reefer containers as part of its ongoing expansion phase. The new NEU1 service has been added as part of UASC's strategic international network to provide customers with global transportation access and reach. It consists of a weekly sailing making five direct port calls in Northern Europe to the principle ports of Le Havre, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Southampton and Bremerhaven. On the US East Coast, four further port calls will be made each week to the largest ports of New York, Norfolk, Charleston and Savannah. Following the recent delivery of 2,000 new reefer units, UASC announced an additional order of 3,500 reefer containers with reefer technology provided by Daikin.
UASC Expands in South America

Arab Shipping Firm Orders 2,000 New Reefer Containers
Container shipping line United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has ordered 2,000 reefer containers from Daikin. As part of the emerging global carrier’s investment in the cutting-edge, energy-efficient solutions for the carriage of frozen and chilled cargoes, the order marks the first milestone in the expansion of UASC’s reefer services, says a statement from the company. The containers will be fitted with Daikin’s latest LXE 10E model reefer unit - the “H” model. While providing the optimum temperature environment and airflow for chilled cargo, hard- and software developments have significantly reduced power consumption, achieving a 50 per cent reduction in comparison to the earliest model, introduced in 2001.
