Looking at your maritime unit, Big Data is having a transformational impact on global maritime. Please detail your offering.

Many maritime organizations are already working with “Big Data” or are preparing to start working with it as part of the so-called digital transformation. Dutch ICT company Shipbuilder presents its top five priorities for the uptake of big data in the maritime sector. It sounds so logical but often organizations don’t define a goal when they start working with big data. This makes it impossible to determine whether the outcome is successful. Set a clear goal. Decide for example to specify, design, build and maintain ships ‘right the first time’.

In addition to working with the Transas Admiralty Data Service (TADS), the new version of the Transas Navi-Planner is now optimized to handle ADMIRALTY Vector Chart Service (AVCS) charts and permits.

EvoLogics GmbH, a manufacturer of underwater communication and positioning systems from Berlin, Germany, will showcase its recent developments at the Ocean Business 2013 exhibition from April 9-11 in Southampton, U.K., including new products, developer solutions and latest updates. Offering more options for customers, EvoLogics GmbH recently extended its ranges of underwater acoustic modems (S2CR series) and combined positioning and communication devices (S2CR USBL series), with new products – the S2CR 42/65 and S2CR 42/65 USBL, high-speed devices with hemispherical beam patterns for transmissions in vertical, slant and horizontal channels.

The US Arctic Research Council (ARC) in association with others, reports on research & mitigation measures for oil spills in the Arctic marine area. This “white paper” is a compilation of research on oil spills in ice-covered Arctic waters and recommendations for future work. ARC identify research entities in governmental, nongov- ernmental, industrial, and private organizations, and provide an inventory of research projects.
