Arcosa Marine Products, a manufacturer of barges used to transport cargo on U.S. inland waterways, is the newest participant in Green Marine – the largest voluntary environmental certification program for North America’s maritime industry.Part of Dallas based Arcosa, Inc., Arcosa Marine Products manufactures dry cargo barges, including flat-deck and hopper barges for the transport of a range of products that include grain, coal, and aggregates. The company also manufactures tank barges that carry petroleum, fertilizer, ethanol, chemicals, and other liquid cargos.

Blount Boats, Inc. becomes the eighth shipyard company to join Green Marine.“We’re already committed to delivering vessels that exceed our clients’ expectations and now wish to go beyond compliance in our work in terms of the environment as well,” says Marcia Blount, the company’s president. “The Green Marine framework is tailor made for the marine industry and scalable to our size of operations. President and CEO of the Port of Cleveland, William D. Friedman, was elected chairman of the Green Marine’s Board of Directors following the corporation’s Annual General Meeting on May 31, during GreenTech 2018, in Vancouver B.C. Friedman has been sitting on the Green Marine Board since 2013.The Port of Cleveland is one of the environmental program’s founding members. “I’ve been engaged on the Green Marine board for the last five years, and the Port of Cleveland has adopted a similar commitment as a member.

The Interlake Steamship Company has become the first U.S. Great Lakes ship owner to join Green Marine, a voluntary environmental certification program for the maritime industry in North America. As the largest privately held U.S.-flagged fleet on the Great Lakes, the Interlake Steamship Company is propelled by a long-term vision to make its vessels the most efficient and environmentally responsible in the shipping industry. “Green Marine certification aligns well with our strategic initiatives regarding the environment,” said Mark W.

The Canaveral Port Authority (CPA) has joined the Green Marine environmental certification program, a North American initiative committed to advancing environmental excellence in maritime transportation. This marks a major milestone as the Canaveral Port Authority is the 100th participant to join Green Marine. Commission Chairman Jerry Allender says protecting the environment is one of the port’s most important duties. “It’s our responsibility to maintain – and when necessary restore – the critical balance of physical conditions that allows Port Canaveral to fulfill its many functions.

The Port of Hueneme, ranked in the top 11% of all U.S. Ports for general cargo flow has signed on as a participant in Green Marine, the largest voluntary environmental program for the maritime industry in North America. The announcement was made November 23rd by Jess Herrera, President of the Oxnard Harbor District’s Board of Harbor Commissioners. Green Marine’s environmental program makes it possible for ports, terminal operators and shipping lines to voluntarily reduce their environmental footprint through a comprehensive program that addresses key environmental issues and criteria using 11 performance indicators including air emissions, community impacts, environmental leadership and much more.

Green Marine has signed a nine-month contract with Transport Canada to provide insight on underwater noise generated by shipping and its effects on marine life, along with potential solutions. “This agreement is a logical next step following the Memorandum of Cooperation that Green Marine and Transport Canada signed in 2012,” explained David Bolduc, Green Marine’s executive director. To meet the contract terms, Green Marine has hired Véronique Nolet as project manager – marine habitat. While temporarily replacing the organization’s program manager last fall, she laid out the foundations for some of Green Marine’s future environmental performance indicators regarding underwater noise. She also set up a working group to focus on the issue and three meetings have been held to date.

BC Ferries achieved its first certification from Green Marine. BC Ferries joined Green Marine this year and was certified on May 28, 2015,  after having its results reviewed by an independent verifier. Green Marine is a globally recognized, voluntary, industry sustainability initiative for ship operators, ports, terminals and shipyards. It enables participants to reduce their environmental footprint by fostering a culture of continuous improvement and exceeding regulatory compliance. BC Ferries has been certified with Green Marine both as a ship owner and as a terminal operator.

The 2014 Canadian Ferry Operators Association (CFOA) annual AGM & Conference is scheduled to take place September 29-30 in Quebec City. The two-day conference will feature presentations on topics such as energy optimization and sustainability, several informative technical sessions and a trade show featuring exhibits from some of the ferry sector’s leading suppliers. Canada’s two largest west coast ports are now both offering financial incentives to shipowners based on the ‘A to G’ Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) rating, which benchmarks the energy efficiency of the international shipping fleet. Port Metro Vancouver’s ‘Eco-Action’ Program and Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA)’s ‘Green Wave’ Program will reward the most efficient vessels that enter the ports. PRPA’s Green Wave Program has already received 19 vessel entries during its first two weeks, with 11 of these vessels using the A-G rating.

Green Marine and the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) has  signed a Memorandum of Understanding underscoring a new collaboration to advance the environmental sustainability of port and terminal operators. The MOU, signed during AAPA’s 102nd Annual Convention in Orlando, Fla., will serve as a framework for increased cooperation between the two parties to advance environmental protection at seaports in the Western Hemisphere. AAPA will encourage its members’ participation in the Green Marine environmental program for ports that find it beneficial to their operations and sustainability initiatives. "AAPA wants to take a leadership role in regard to port environmental certification," says AAPA President and CEO Kurt J. Nagle.

The Canadian Ferry Operators Association (CFOA) has joined in 'Green Marine', a joint Canada-U.S. environmental initiative. “Canada’s waterways are the lifeblood of our members,” said Serge Buy, CEO of CFOA. Fraser Surrey Docks (FSD) the multi-purpose marine terminal on the West Coast of North America, joined Green Marine. Port of Seattle has signed-on as a participant in Green Marine, the largest voluntary environmental program for the maritime industry in North America. Port of Seattle state that it is the first  U.S. port outside of the Great Lakes region to join Green Marine. Squamish Terminals (SQT), a B.C. deep-water, break-bulk terminal, has signed on as a participant to Green Marine. Green Marine encourages its participants, ship owners, ports, terminals and shipyards, to undertake concrete actions that go beyond regulatory requirements aimed at improving environmental performance and sustainability. Green Marine’s success is based on a 5-year track record of participating companies demonstrating improved environmental performance. Squamish Terminals already stands out for its environmental stewardship by being regular participants in the Squamish Estuary Management Committee and hosting the annual Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup in Squamish.

Green Marine, a program aimed at improving the shipping industry’s environmental footprint, announced that New York-based Roymar Ship Management has become its newest participant. Roymar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of TBS International, manages TBS' entire international fleet including 50 multipurpose vessels and bulk carriers. With a client base of approximately 300 customers in 20 countries, TBS has developed its business around key trade routes between Latin America and China, Japan and South Korea, as well as ports in North America, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East transporting steel products, project cargo, general and dry bulk cargo. Roymar, based in Scarsdale, NY, becomes the 50th company and the first major U.S.-based shipowner to join Green Marine.
