ClassNK CMAXS for Two MOL Ships

ClassNK Consulting Service Co., Ltd. developed next-generation diagnostic monitoring system “ClassNK CMAXS” has been chosen by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) for installation on two more ships operated by the company. The system is now installed on a total of six MOL-operated ships. The two ships are installed with CMAXS e-GICSX, a system which monitors electrically controlled main engine supplied by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., and CMAXS LC-A for auxiliary engines supplied by DAIHATSU DIESEL MFG. CO, LTD. Both CMAXS systems operate simultaneously, gathering information from VDR, data logger and main engine. This information (Big Data) is consolidated on a common platform for analysis and the potential future improvement.

JX Ocean Selects ClassNK CMAXS LC-A

ClassNK subsidiary ClassNK Consulting Service announced that JX Ocean Co., Ltd. has selected the machinery condition monitoring and automatic diagnostic system ClassNK CMAXS LC- A for use on 310,000 dwt tanker Eneos Spirit. ClassNK CMAXS LC- A is a solution that integrates sensor anomaly detection algorithm to analyze correlations between multiple sensor data in the engine room and detect any early signs of malfunction or potential damage to machinery. K Line Expands Use of ClassNK CMAX LC-A

“K” Line Ship Management (Singapore) Pte Ltd has selected ClassNK Consulting Service’s machinery condition monitoring and automatic diagnostic system ClassNK CMAXS LC-A for use on one of its container vessels, marking the first commercial application of the software. “K” Line Ship Management (Singapore) Pte Ltd selected ClassNK CMAXS LC-A after a successful trial installation in 2014 delivered proven fuel and lubricating oil savings of 200 tons/year. The trial was carried out as part of a joint research project in collaboration with ClassNK and Diesel United Ltd. ClassNK CMAXS LC-A uses innovative diagnosis algorithms to analyze multiple sensor data in the engine room and detect any early signs of machinery damage.

Wärtsilä, Diesel United Renew Pact

Wärtsilä and Diesel United Ltd in Japan have signed a ten-year renewal of their co-operation agreement for the sale, manufacturing and servicing of Wärtsilä low-speed marine engines. Diesel United is a long-standing member of the Wärtsilä family of low-speed engine licensees. The renewal was signed on the 66th anniversary of the signing of the licence by Diesel United for Sulzer low-speed marine engines on 4 October 1948. This has been Diesel United's sole licence for low-speed two-stroke diesel engines throughout the years since then.

Wärtsilä RT-flex Engines Achieve 1000 Orders Milestone

Wärtsilä has received its 1000th order for the 2-stroke, electronically controlled, common-rail low-speed diesel engine. The 1000th order will power an efficient Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) tanker being built for JX Tanker Company Limited, the Yokohama, Japan based major tanker company. The 310.000 DWT vessel is being built at the IHI Marine United Inc., Kure shipyard, and is scheduled for delivery in 2014. The engine will be manufactured by Diesel United, Ltd. (DU), a Wärtsilä licensee in Japan.

First Sulzer RT-flex50 Engines Ordered

Wärtsilä Corporation has been awarded a contract to supply the first Sulzer RT-flex50 low-speed marine diesel engines. The RT-flex50 is the latest in the Sulzer RT-flex engine series which, with their electronically-controlled common-rail systems, are the most advanced low-speed engines for ship propulsion. Four six-cylinder Sulzer RT-flex50 engines have been ordered from Wärtsilä by Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Ltd in the People's Republic of China and will be installed in four 53,800 tdw Handymax bulk carriers contracted by the Greek shipowner Enterprises Shipping & Trading.

Most powerful common-rail engine successfully tested

The first 12-cylinder Sulzer RT-flex96C low-speed marine engine developed by Wärtsilä Corporation has reportedly successfully completed its official shop test. With a maximum continuous power output of 68,640 kW (93,360 bhp) at 102 rpm, it is the most powerful engine so far to employ common-rail technology. The engine is one of four ordered in 2003 for the propulsion of four 7700 TEU Post-Panamax container liners contracted by Blue Star Reederei, a subsidiary of P&O Nedlloyd BV, with the Japanese shipbuilding group IHI Marine United Inc.

For the year 2000, Wärtsilä Corporation reports that 24 Sulzer RTA84T low-speed diesel engines with an aggregate power output of 713.4 MW (970,800 bhp) have been ordered for installation in very large tankers contracted at shipyards in China, Japan and South Korea. The engines will all be built by licensees of Wärtsilä in Japan and Korea. Altogether there are now 78 Sulzer RTA84T engines (including the -B and -D versions) delivered or on order, with a combined output of 2171.9 MW (2.95 million bhp). Ten 305,000 dwt oil tankers recently contracted in China and South Korea by National Iranian Tanker Co (NITC) will each be propelled by a seven-cylinder Sulzer RTA84T-B low-speed diesel engine.

Wärtsilä-Developed Engine Undergoes Test Program

The first electronically-controlled low-speed marine diesel engine built in Japan is currently completing its test program. The Sulzer 6RT-flex58T-B has a maximum continuous power output of 12,750 kW (17,340 bhp) at 105 rev/min. of August 2003. The engine has already finished various confirmation tests in the Aioi works and today was demonstrated to a large group of guests. shipowners, ship operators and shipbuilders, together with representatives from classification societies and other interested organizations. systems for fuel injection and valve actuation. speeds for better manuevering. has been underway for more than two years. Wärtsilä's Engines Tested

The first two of the latest Sulzer RT-flex50 common-rail marine engine type developed by Wärtsilä Corporation, have successfully completed official shop tests and class type approval tests at Wärtsilä's licensee Diesel United Ltd in Japan. With five to eight cylinders, the Sulzer RT-flex50 low-speed marine diesel engine covers a power range of 5800 to 13,280 kW at 99 to 124 rpm. It is thus ideally suited to the propulsion of bulk carriers in the Handymax to Panamax size range, product tankers and feeder container vessels. The Sulzer RT-flex50 is based on the Sulzer RTA50 engine jointly developed by Wärtsilä and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd in Japan.
