Golar Unit CEO Takes Leave of Absence Amid Corruption Probe

Golar LNG said on Tuesday Hygo Energy Transition Ltd Chief Executive Officer Eduardo Antonello has taken leave of absence with immediate effect, following a corruption investigation involving him in Brazil.Golar said Antonello's leave was in no way linked to any action or misconduct during his tenure at Hygo Energy, a liquefied natural gas transport and infrastructure operator formed with U.S. private equity firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners.Antonello's functions will be taken over temporarily by Hygo's board, Golar said.Last Thursday, Brazilian federal prosecutors accused Antonello of bribery in court filings outlining a new phase of the massive Car Wash graft probe…

New Patrol Vessel Delivered for Dutch Police

Damen Shipyards Gorinchem has hosted the naming ceremony of a Damen Stan Patrol (SPa) 2005 for the Dutch National Police. The new vessel – named P64 – marks the second vessel in a six-ship contract between Damen and the Dutch Police.The Dutch Police will use the new SPa 2005 for deployment on the Netherlands’ extensive inland waterways. The vessel’s aluminium hull and FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) superstructure will provide the lightweight means required for fast and effective police patrol operations.

Italian Police Make Major Heroin Haul on Ship From Iran

Italian police discovered 270 kg (600 lb) of heroin hidden in a container that arrived aboard a ship from Iran, the biggest such haul for at least 20 years in Italy, police said on Thursday.The freighter had set sail from the Iranian Gulf port of Bandar Abbas and stopped off in Hamburg, Germany and Valencia, Spain before reaching the Italian port of Genoa on Oct. 17, where police discovered the heroin stashed away in a consignment of Bentonite clay.A police spokesman said investigators were not sure when or where the drugs were brought onto the ship.Police allowed a small portion of the illicit cargo to continue its planned journey by truck to the Netherlands.They tracked the vehicle as it crossed Switzerland…

Dutch Police Order Six Damen-built Patrol Vessels

The Dutch Police has ordered six patrol vessels from Damen Shipyards for its ‘Zeehavenpolitie’ and ‘Landelijke Eenheid’ units. Three of the new vessels are seagoing (the Stan Patrol 2506) and the other three are for the inland waterways (the Stan Patrol 2005). All six will be built at Damen’s headquarters in Gorinchem in the Netherlands, and are due to be delivered between 2019-2021. Jeroen van Woerkum, Damen Shipyards Sales Manager Benelux is delighted to have won the European tender for the six patrol vessels.

Lost Fishing Vessel Wreck Located

The missing Belgian fishing vessel, which lost communications in the channel Wednesday, January 28, was located today by a survey vessel, the U.K. Coastguard and Maritime Agency (MCA) reported.   The Dutch authorities have sent to the fishing vessel wreck location a Royal Netherlands Navy warship, HNLMS  Luymes, expected to arrive on scene tomorrow morning.   On board the warship is a diving team and a Dutch police officer, which is standard procedure for missing people, MCA said. Also on board are two officers from the Belgian shipping inspection, which is in charge of the investigation.

Brit Ferry Passengers Seriously Injured in Pizza Fight

Two fights occured on the ferry 'Pride of Rotterdam' on passage from Hull, UK to Rotterdam; one was over a slice of pizza. Two British passengers on a Dutch-bound ferry were airlifted to hospital in serious condition after two separate fights onboard, including one over a slice of pizza, according to Dutch police, as reported by 'Crewtoo'. The first incident happened around midnight when a 25-year-old Briton allegedly snatched a slice of pizza from another, sparking an argument which led to a scuffle in which the 25-year-old man fell down a flight of stairs…

Dutch Police Investigate Illegal Bunker Fuel Blending

"During three days, we checked whether 30 vessels had the correct documentation. In 12 cases, documents were forged, or the environmental law was violated," Hans Tuinder, head of the Criminal Investigation department for the Marine Police, told Xinhua. Over 22,000 vessels are bunkered in the Netherlands annually, taking in around 13 million tonnes of fuel in total. The port of Rotterdam is a major trading location, the source of around 88 percent of all bunker fuel. A study conducted by the scientific institute CE Delft last year showed some ocean-going vessels were bunkered by fuel oil contaminated with hazardous waste materials. Fuel oil "naturally" contains a variety of hazardous substances in high concentrations.

Greenpeace Blockade Ended by Police

According to a report from China View, On Nov. 16, Dutch police ended the blockade of a Rotterdam dock by Greenpeace which was trying to stop the construction of a coal-fired plant. Dutch police boarded the two ships of the environmental group, which had blocked the dock to prevent ships carrying coal from entering the port earlier that day. The two ships were brought to the quayside, where they were put under embargo. The captains were arrested, but the protesters were released. (Source: China View)

Damen Delivers Patrol Vessel

Damen Shipyards Gorinchem recently delivered the Damen Stan Patrol 2005 RV160 – Wycker Meer to the Koninklijke Marechaussee (Royal Dutch Military Police), which differs only in detail from ‘Kokmeeuw’ and ‘Mantelmeeuw’, two Damen Stan Patrols 2005, which were delivered to the Dutch Customs earlier in 2004. The Damen Stan Patrol 2005 is a further development on the Damen Stan Patrol 1805, of which Damen has built 13 vessels for the Dutch Police in the past years. The construction of the aluminium hull and deckhouse of ‘RV160 – Wycker Meer’ was subcontracted to a foreign yard. The complete outfitting was carried out at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem. Although the ship will sail at relatively slow patrol speeds most of the time, she can achieve a maximum speed of 23.5 knots.
