Rapp Marine Equips Pelagic Fleet Trawlers

Rapp Marine has received two new orders for the supply of complete electrical deck machinery packages for the two pelagic trawlers, Rockall and Themis, announced Morten Stenkjær, VP Sales Fisheries Rapp Marine. Rapp Marine signed the contract in March 2016 with the shipbuilder Karstensens Skibsværft in Skagen, Denmark, for these two newbuildings. Astrid Fiskeri AS in Skagen owns Rockall, while Themis is owned by Themis Fiskeri AS in Thyborøn. Rockall will be to fully outfitted with deck machinery suitable for twin trawl fisheries.

Ibercisa Supplies Iraqi Navi

The Spanish company Ibercisa supplies equipment to Fincantieri, Cantieri Navali Italiani, S.p.A. through its agent Gecom, for four Saettia MK Patrol ships for the Iraqi Navy. Each of the Patrol ships is equipped with two capstans, one vertical electric anchor winch model MAN-E/V/16-S/1 chain (16 mm) and one auxiliary cargo winch RHIB model MAX-C/E/15/25-16 (6 ton direct pull). All the supplied equipment are electrically driven according to owners’ specifications. Tidewater Selects New Model GM-EMDs

Stewart & Stevenson Services, Inc., New Orleans, La., has shipped the first four of 20 marine models of General Motors totally new EMD 16-265H diesel engines and generators to Yantai Raffles Shipyard PTE, LTD in China for installation in the MV John P. LABORDE. It is the first of five new 282-ft., diesel electric anchor handling/tug supply boats (AH/TS) under construction for Tidewater Marine, Inc., New Orleans, La. The four EMD generator sets in each vessel will produce a total of 24,000 hp (or 17,200 kilowatts of electrical power) required for the boats' diesel-electric propulsion, dynamic positioning, winching, towing and other systems as well as hotel loads. The generator sets utilize generators manufactured by the Baylor Division of National Oilwell, LP of Houston, Texas.

Markey Secures Order for Science Winches

SEATTLE  —  Markey Machinery  announced that it has been awarded an order for a complete suite of winch systems onboard AGOR-27, a new academic research vessel, under construction at Dakota Creek Industries,  in Anacortes, Washington. Sponsored by the US Navy’s Office of Naval Research, this award continues a plan to renew America’s aging fleet of academic research vessels, including ocean ranging vessels like the US Navy’s Knorr (AGOR-15). The scope of the order is for one ship set, including two type CAST6-125 Deep Sea Research Winches with active motion compensation, a type DETW-9-11 All-Electric Traction Winch System with two storage drums…

Markey Equips Research Vessel Sally Ride

Named for the first American woman launched into space aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger, the Research Vessel Sally Ride was commissioned August 9 at Dakota Creek Industries (Anacortes, Washington). Sally Ride is a U.S. Navy Office of Naval Research sponsored Auxiliary General Oceanographic Research Vessel (AGOR-28). The vessel’s advanced deck machinery will be operated by Scripps Institution of Oceanography personnel during extended scientific missions upon the seven seas.

Washburn & Doughty Wins Hybrid Tug Orders

East Boothbay, Maine based Washburn & Doughty said it has secured a contract with Harbor Docking and Towing, of Lake Charles, La., to design and build two 93’ x 38’ Hybrid Z Drive Tugs. The 93’ x 38’ hull is a proven design with 18 tugs in operation and 4 under construction. The vessel will be built as a Harbor Assist Vessel as defined in USCG Subchapter M and admeasure less than 200 gross tons U.S. regulatory tonnage. Caterpillar Marine will provide a ‘stem-to-stern’ Cat content hybrid propulsion system, with support from both Milton Cat and Louisiana Cat in the sales effort. Maersk Supply Service Wins Contract With Quadrant Energy

Maersk Master and Maersk Mariner, Maersk Supply Service’s two first Starfish-class anchor handling vessels built in 2017, will be on contract with Quadrant Energy in Western Australia, commencing March 2018. Both vessels will support Quadrant Energy’s Phoenix South and Van Gogh drilling campaign which will initially cover three wells for a duration of 150 to 200 days. Growing interest in hybrid-electric power systems is expanding the search for new propulsion and energy-storage systems in the workboat sector, where compliance with emerging environmental regulations and a relentless pursuit of operational efficiency are driving change. To meet demands for cleaner more efficient power, owners are examining the potential for less conventional methods of energy generation and storage – such as fuel cells, lithium-ion batteries, super-capacitors, flywheels, wind and solar – to propel their vessels.

C-Job Naval Architects said it has delivered the concept design of a series of five sustainable car and passenger ferries to the City of Amsterdam. The vessels will operate 100 percent on electricity, thus providing an emission-free urban transport solution. The fully electric ferries are designed to recharge their batteries during the unloading and loading of passengers and vehicles. In order to maintain efficiency of service and a quick turnaround, this charging process will take place during a timeframe of a maximum of four minutes.

These efficient hydraulic anchors and all-electric Micro Anchor products quickly and quietly anchor fishing boats and kayaks in shallow-water situations. A simple touchscreen control on the Lowrance High Definition System (HDS) Gen3 display allows anglers to wirelessly engage the anchor — saving anglers additional steps and minutes, so they can focus on fishing.

Tugs, PSV Ordered from Singapore-based Shipbuilder

ASL Marine Holdings Ltd., a marine group engaged in shipbuilding, ship-repair and conversion, as well as ship chartering, has secured contracts worth S$132.5 million for the construction of five vessels. The vessels comprised four 75-tonne bollard-pull Diesel Electric Hybrid Azimuth Stern Drive Tugs and one Platform Supply Vessel, scheduled for delivery between the fourth quarter of 2013 and the fourth quarter of 2014. Separately, the Group’s ship-repair division also secured conversion and upgrading works for two drilling rigs. ASL Marine owns and operates shipyards in Singapore, Batam (Indonesia) and Guangdong (China), providing a comprehensive range of marine engineering services spanning myriad sectors/ industries.

BOURBON announced that it has taken delivery, as scheduled, of the Bourbon Arctic from Norway's Vard Brattvåg shipyard and completed her first anchor handling operation. The vessel was engaged in the disconnection and unmooring operation of the Island Innovator drilling rig located at the Fosen field in the central North Sea. As a large Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessel, the Bourbon Arctic is specially designed to operate in remote areas all over the world and equipped for advanced anchor handling and towing operations.

Rapp Hydema Wins Winch Contract for Fishery Survey Vessel

Rapp Hydema has closed a major contract with STX Finland Oy Shipyard related to a new research vessel. The Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources selected STX Finland Oy to build new hull, No. 1378, which will undertake fishery survey missions. Distinctive for recent orders is an admixture of both electric and hydraulic machinery. Hydraulically-powered machinery includes the Rapp trawl winches. Also, a double net-drum is to be utilized for net storage, and Rapp is also providing a Gilson winch, as well as a Research/Sounder Winch. A Rapp anchor winch with two capstans is also to be provided, as well as two separate hydraulic power packs for the anchor/capstans package and the fishing winches.The trawl winches are to be controlled by a PTS Pentagon Cbus F system…

OSD Rolls Out New Harbor Tug Design

Offshore Ship Designers (OSD) has launched a new tug design as part of its expanding portfolio of fuel-efficient vessels. The 390 gt Azistern 2870 harbor tug has a hard chine hull form which optimizes energy-saving during transit and results in a very low wash. It has a bollard pull of 70 metric tons and a maximum speed of 12 knots. Providing accommodation for six persons, it has an overall length of 28.3 m, and a breadth of 11.5 m. The Azistern 2870 has been designed with multiple deck equipment options, the installation of which are dependent on specific end-user preference.

Foss Ships Utility Trucks to Puerto Rico

At the Port of Virginia in Norfolk and the Port of Lake Charles in Louisiana, Foss Maritime is loading hundreds of utility trucks onto barges bound for Puerto Rico this week. It’s all part of the on-going effort to restore power to nearly half of the population who are without electricity. Last Friday, Ricardo Rosselló, governor of Puerto Rico, announced that 1.5 million Puerto Ricans are still without power 100 days after Hurricane Maria hit Sept. 20. As part of the on-going power restoration effort, Foss is working with a coalition of 19 U.S.

Fukushima Floating Offshore Wind Project Progressing

An experimental offshore floating wind farm project sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has been underway since March 2012. Participating in the project is a consortium comprised of Marubeni (project integrator), the University of Tokyo (technical advisor), Mitsubishi, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan Marine United, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal, Hitachi, Furukawa Electric, Shimizu, and Mizuho Information & Research.

Rolls-Royce Engines, Equipment for Bourbon

Rolls-Royce is to deliver deck machinery and engines to an arctic Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessel (AHTS) to be built by Vard for Bourbon Offshore Norway. The contract has a value in excess of £17 million for Rolls-Royce. The deck machinery delivery from Rolls-Royce will consist of anchor handling winches, secondary winches, auxiliary winches, anchor handling cranes and a wide range of safer deck operation equipment. The engine delivery consists of two main engines and three main generator engines. AHTS vessels are built to handle anchors for oil rigs and perform rig moves.

Moran Moves Towards DH Fleet

With the introduction of three new double-hull petroleum barges in 2005, Paul Tregurtha, chairman of Moran Towing Corporation, announced that the company is on track to achieve its goal of operating an all double-hull fleet by the end of 2006. In the first seven months of 2005, Moran introduced two newly built double-hull petroleum barges, New Hampshire and Georgia, both built at Bay Shipbuilding in Wisconsin, and a newly converted double-hulled barge Massachusetts, delivered from Gulf Marine Repair in Florida. The three barges, with a combined cargo carrying capacity of 360,000 barrels, were matched with ocean-going tugs from the Moran fleet, all with articulated (ATB) coupler systems that allow the tug to remain permanently in the barge notch when underway.

Anchor Handling Tug From South China

Formerly a state owned shipyard, the Guangdon Xinhui Shipyard in Jianmen, Guangdong China has recently been renamed South China Shipyard (SCS) after being purchased by the Hong Kong based firm South China Shipbuilding Holdings (HK) Ltd. The yard is currently building two 42x11-m anchor handling tugs with twin Cummins QSK60 main engines delivering 2200 hp each at 1800 RPM with Reintjes WAF763 gears with 5.75:1 reduction. Each vessel will also be fitted with Cummins QSM11-powered 240 kW gen sets. The vessel will be fitted with a double-drum electric over hydraulic anchor handling and towing winch with a 65 MT line pull and a 180MT brake holding capacity. Optional provision has been designed in for both bow and stern thrusters.

Markey Machinery Supplies Equipment For Response

Markey Machinery Co., Inc. of Seattle,Washington has supplied equipment onboard Crowley's tug Response. The bow of the tug is fitted with a WYW-20-48 hydraulic combination winch/windlass with a 1-1/4" anchor wildcat, and soft-line storage drum.
