Evergreen Group Announces Management Changes
Taiwan-based Evergreen Group announced management changes. Capt. S.Y. Kuo has been promoted to Second Vice Group Chairman of the entire Evergreen Group based in Taipei. Most recently, Captain Kuo has been Vice Group Chairman overseeing all Evergreen Group business in the Americas. He will relocate to Group headquarters in Taipei. Marcel Chang has been promoted to Vice Group Chairman of Evergreen Group from Chairman of Evergreen Shipping Agency (America) Corp. (EGA), succeeding Captain Kuo. He will be responsible for supervising all Evergreen Group affiliate business in the Americas. Thomas Chen has been named Chairman of Evergreen Shipping Agency (America)Corp. (EGA) from President, succeeding Marcel Chang.
Evergreen Social Responsibility Award
The Evergreen Group was honored with “The Corporate Social Responsibility Award” on September 8 at the presentation of the 2009 Lloyd’s List Global Awards. The award recognizes the leadership demonstrated by the Evergreen Group for its efforts aimed at safeguarding the environment. Mitsubishi Launches Hatsu Smile
On February 4, 2006, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Kobe shipyard launched Hatsu Smile, the fourth in a series of ten 7024TEU S-type container vessels that the shipbuilder is constructing for the Evergreen Group. Like the first three ships in the series, Hatsu Smile will be operated by London-headquartered Hatsu Marine Ltd. Hatsu Smile was named by Mr Chang Kuo-Cheng (K C Chang), Vice Group Chairman of Evergreen Group and Chairman of Evergreen Marine Corp. The honour of cutting the ceremonial rope sending the traditional bottle of champagne against its bow to launch and send the vessel on its way down the slipway was given to Mrs Kuo Yeh Chiung-Yu, wife of Captain S Y Kuo who is also Vice Group Chairman for the Evergreen Group.
Triple Containership Naming in Korea Shipyard

Evergreen Group to Order 100 Containerships
According to an April 19 report from the Taiwan News, after refraining from placing any order for new ships for the past two years, the head of the Evergreen Group now sees the opportune time to replenish his fleet with newbuildings. Dr. Chang Yung-fa, chairman of the Evergreen Group, said in a recent interview in Tokyo that the group intends to order 100 new containerships in the near future and negotiations with shipbuilders are expected to start in May. Evergreen Marine Corporation said that Chang Kuo-wei, the late founder's son, was no longer on its board of directors, reports local media. Chang's seat on its board of directors will be filled by Hsieh Huey-chuan. Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou honored Evergreen Group founder Dr. Chang Yung-Fa with a posthumous commendation in recognition of his contributions to international transportation and social welfare during the memorial service today. Evergreen Group held the naming ceremony for Ever Loading, the sixth of its L-type vessels to be built by CSBC Corporation in Taiwan. Evergreen Launches Another Asia/US Service
Following congestion on the US West Coast towards the end of 2004, the pressure has been on carriers to launch additional services via the Panama Canal. The Evergreen Group has responded to this challenge by introducing new services of its own and complementing these with slot charter arrangements with other carriers. Together with Cosco Container Lines (Coscon), Evergreen Marine Corporation (EMC) is launching a new service linking China with the southern states of the US. Ever Safety Launched in Japan
Ever Safety, the ninth of ten 7024 TEU S-series vessels being built for Evergreen in Japan, was launched today (June 5, 2007) at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Kobe shipyard. She was named by S S Lin (Lin Sun-san), Second Vice Group Chairman of the Evergreen Group, while the ceremonial rope cutting, sending the ship down the slipway, was performed by Mrs Shigemi Matsuda, the wife of Akira Matsuda, Senior Executive Vice President and Member of the Board of the Marubeni Corporation. Due for delivery in October 2007, Ever Safety is scheduled to join Evergreen Line’s transpacific service. The eight earlier vessels are currently in the process of being transferred to Evergreen Line’s new China Europe Shuttle (CES) service that will offer a fast link between Asia and North Europe.
Bronson Hsieh Leaves Evergreen to Head Yang Ming
Evergreen Group vice chairman Bronson Hsieh has been appointed chairman of rival Taiwan carrier Yang Ming Marine. Yang Ming Marine Transport, the nation’s second-largest container shipper in terms of fleet size, approved Hsieh’s appointment, reports said. Evergreen America Corp. Returns to JC
Evergreen America Corporation, agents for global ocean carrier Evergreen, has moved U. S. headquarters to Jersey City, NJ , from Morristown, NJ, effective November 17. The move returns more than 200 jobs to Jersey City. The new address is 1 Evertrust Plaza, Jersey City, NJ 07302. For ten years, Evergreen America maintained its head offices at the Evertrust Building, which is owned by an Evergreen Group division, before moving to Morristown four years ago.
Evergreen Group Orders Ten 8000 TEU vessels
Evergreen Group has placed orders with Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd in Taipei for ten 8,000-TEU L-class environmentally advanced container vessels. The first vessel is due for delivery in 2012 and will join Evergreen Line global containership fleet. Six of the new vessels will be built for Evergreen Marine Corporation and four for Evergreen International S.A. (Panama). The ships are being built at a cost of $103m each. The new ships will be constructed under the innovative Greenship design concept developed by Evergreen Group Chairman Dr. Chang Yung-Fa nearly 10 years ago and first introduced in 2003. The highly developed features have been built into every Evergreen Line vessel since then. The Greenship program has taken environmental protection and compliance to a superior level.
