Valmet will supply exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubber system) for ten container vessels of COSCO Shipping Lines Co., Ltd. Valmet to Supply Scrubber Systems to DSME
Finnish technology company Valmet Oyj will supply exhaust gas cleaning system (scrubber system) for seven new building container vessels, which will be built in South Korea by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) for Korean Shipping company Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM).The developer and supplier of technologies, automation systems and services said in a press release that the building container vessels are the largest in the world, over 23,000 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit) each. The scrubber system deliveries will start in 2019.The scrubber system order was included in Valmet's fourth quarter 2018 orders received. The value of the order will not be disclosed.Valmet has a long track record in supplying scrubber systems to different vessels types.
Norwegian Jewel Retrofitted with Gas Scrubbers
An Exhaust Gas Scrubber system has been retrofitted on cruise ship Norwegian Jewel to reduce the vessel’s air emissions and environmental footprint. Norwegian Cruise Line said it is the first cruise line to retrofit a vessel while it is in service with an Exhaust Gas Scrubber Hybrid system. Norwegian Jewel’s new lightweight in-line scrubbers are a hybrid technology developed by Yara Marine Technologies that are able to operate in dry mode, open loop and closed loop. Five scrubbers were installed, one per engine, covering the whole propulsion system.

Gibdock's ro-ro and container ship repair work continues, following the drydocking of two con-ro vessels operated by Canadian shipowner, Oceanex.
