China Navigation Company Opens Vancouver Branch

China Navigation Company (CNCo), part of the Swire Group, has expanded its presence in North America by establishing a branch office in Vancouver, Canada.The opening ceremony was graced by Bruce Ralston, Minister of Jobs, Trade & Technology, British Columbia, who unveiled a plaque in the CNCo office located at W Hastings Street.Minister Bruce Ralston said, “The Province recognises the significant contribution that The China Navigation Company makes to the shipping industry worldwide. KR Opens Opens New BWMS Testing Facility

The Korean Register (KR) – an IACS member classification society – has announced that it has significantly expanded its land-based test facilities for Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) by opening a brand new specialist facility. KR has been conducting type approval testing of BWMS since 2004, with a consortium of six different partners. KR and its partners segregate the duties, taking into account each organization’s specialist expertise. This range of expert knowledge and high quality services was recognized when KR was accepted as the first Independent Laboratory in Asia to be accredited by the United States Coast Guard (USCG IL).

MSC Inks Partnership Deal with Orca Social

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Group has signed an exclusive partnership with the social media consultancy Orca Social Ltd. Over the past 45 years the family-owned shipping company, headquartered in Geneva, has maintained a modest approach to communications. “Historically, we have communicated with our customers on a one-to-one, offline basis. New technology allows people and companies to communicate in new and exciting ways.” explains Joe Cook, MSC’s Global Marketing Manager. Indeed, developments at MSC have already begun. LOC Expands Australian Operations

London Offshore Consultants (LOC), announced the expansion of its Australian operations with the official opening of its Sydney office today (March 12, 2015). The office will be the second LOC operation in Australia after it opened its first office in Perth.Set up to cover theeastof Australia, the Sydney office will mainly servethe marine market. The services will include hull and machinery advisory, P&I Club work, expert services and casualty management. The office will be headed by Drew Shannon, a Master Marinerwith more than13 years’ of experience in marine operations management, risk analysis and salvage operations. He is one of LOC’s 12 appointed Special Casualty Representatives globally.

ChartCo Acquires Regs4ships

Maritime digital data services company ChartCo acquired Regs4ships, the supplier of digital regulatory information, consultancy and training. ChartCo, part of the Kelvin Hughes Group, created a range of digital services in 1998 in anticipation of the move from paper to digital charts and publications. Subscriber numbers have since exceeded all expectations and continue to grow. ChartCo now offers a range of services aimed at assisting the Navigator not only to maintain the chart outfit but both plan and execute his voyage. The key PassageManager suite of software is built into many operators’ safety management systems. It provides consistent and compliant procedures and facilitates external audit.

AVIC International will Acquire Deltamarin

The majority of the shares of Deltamarin Ltd are to be sold to AVIC International Investments Limited, a publicly listed company on the Singapore Stock Exchange. After the closing of the acquisition, Deltamarin’s existing operations will continue as they are and the business will remain independent keeping the name and the brand of Deltamarin unchanged. The aim of the intended new ownership structure is to enable Deltamarin’s solid growth in the marine and offshore oil and gas markets. The new owner to be, AVIC International Investments Limited, is a part of the AVIC Group. Its parent company AVIC is a global Fortune 500 company with approximately 500,000 employees.

DNV KEMA Energy Sets Up Beijing HQ

DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability is setting up its Asia Pacific Headquarters for services towards the transmission and cleaner energy sectors in Beijing. “DNV is committed to help China develop a safer, more efficient and reliable energy supply system with improved fossil and renewable power generation to support China’s growth ambitions and development towards a low carbon economy,” said DNV’s Group Chief Executive Officer Henrik O. Madsen at a press conference in Beijing. The establishment of this second clean technology headquarters for Asia Pacific follows DNV’s acquisition of 74.3% of KEMA shares in February 2012, resulting in a new company called DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability.
