Maersk Seeks to Shut Janice in UK North Sea

Maersk Oil said on Wednesday it would seek regulatory permission to shut its Janice installation, which produces around 7,000 barrels per day (bpd) from three UK North Sea oilfields, as the Danish firm reviews its operations due to falling oil prices. It is one of the first North Sea oil fields to be threatened with closure due to the drop in prices, with Brent crude futures having plunged to around $43 a barrel from over $100 a barrel last June. Directorate Changes At Sound Oil

Sound Oil, the Mediterranean focused upstream oil and gas company, announced that the Board of Directors has decided to implement certain changes to reflect recent progress and developments. Sound Oil's current Chairman, Andrew Hockey, has decided to step down as Chairman of the Company following the Annual General Meeting. Andrew will remain on the Board as a Non-Executive Director and will continue to chair the Exploration and Production Technical Committee and the HSE Committee. Andrew currently holds a full time executive position at Fairfield Energy Limited. Simon Davies, an existing Non-Executive Director of the Company and a significant shareholder, will assume the role of Non-Executive Chairman with immediate effect.

PD&MS Energy Secures Contract Extension

PD&MS Energy has been awarded an offshore contract extension for engineering work on Fairfield Energy’s North Sea assets. Following an initial three-year contract, the options will see the Aberdeen-headquartered firm provide engineering, procurement and offshore construction services for an additional two years from May 2014. Spudding of Exploration Well on Darwin

Fairfield Energy COO Ian Sharp on board Dunlin platform which recently had investment of ÂŁ70 million to help increase and sustain production.

Fairfield Energy, a North Sea-focused independent oil and gas company,  announced that the first well of a three well campaign in the Darwin area spudded on 23 October. The well is being drilled from the Ocean Nomad and is operated by Fairfield. The Darwin area includes the southern end of Block 211/27a (previously known as the NW Hutton field) together with an extension into Block 211/27e and lies approximately 130 km northeast of the Shetland Islands in the Northern North Sea.

Dunlin win for Aker Solutions

Aker Solutions in has been awarded a three-year contract, plus options, to provide Fairfield Energy with engineering, procurement and construction services on the Dunlin Alpha platform in the northern . The contract is valued at between GBP 20 and 30 Million annually and will create around 100 new jobs. The award to one of the businesses of the global engineering and construction group comes in the wake of 's purchase of the Dunlin field cluster from Shell in December 2007. Aker Solutions will undertake a number of initial studies on the installation, followed by an aggressive programme of modifications, including onshore engineering work, procurement and offshore construction.
