The Port of Prince Rupert and DP World have agreed on terms of a project development plan that outlines the next phase of expansion for the DP World Prince Rupert Fairview Container Terminal. The Phase 2B expansion will increase annual throughput capacity at Canada’s second largest container terminal to 1.8 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) when complete in 2022. DP World and the Prince Rupert Port Authority have announced an agreement to study further expansion of the Fairview Container Terminal in Prince Rupert. The agreement was signed by DP World Canada Group General Manager, Maksim Mihic, and Prince Rupert Port Authority President & CEO, Don Krusel, further strengthening the commitment of their respective organizations to the development and growth of the Port of Prince Rupert. DP World may launch operations in Iran, the company's chairman said on Thursday, as the global ports operator reported a jump in half-year earnings after buying assets from its parent company. Customer demand will dictate what it will spend on developing port facilities on the Caspian Sea, which it is currently exploring with Iranian authorities. "Iran has a good land bridge of rail that will connect the Silk Route from China to Europe," Chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said on an earnings call with reporters. "With our ports in the Gulf, we need to go into Iran," he said, without giving a timeframe for the investment. He said DP World officials visited Iran ahead of Tehran's nuclear deal with world powers in July that could see trade sanctions lifted.

DP World Limited today announces its agreement to acquire Maher Terminal’s Fairview Container Terminal (Fairview) in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada from Deutsche Bank. Fairview presents growth opportunity in a market with attractive and growing demand. Fairview is a purpose built terminal with an efficient sea-rail link and has a current capacity of 850,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent container units), with a just-announced Phase 2 expansion that will take capacity to 1.35 million TEU. The concession period runs to 2034 with an extension to 2056 after the completion of Phase 2. consideration payable is C$580 million (US$457 million*) for the total outstanding stock of Fairview on a cash-free, debt-free basis (subject to customary adjustments).

Maher Terminals Holding Corp., the operator of the Port of Prince Rupert’s Fairview Container Terminal, today announced its decision to proceed with expansion of the 7-year-old facility, increasing its container capacity by 500,000 TEUs to accommodate growing container volumes and further enhancing the Canadian gateway’s growing role in North American trans-Pacific trade. “Intermodal customers have been capitalizing on the advantages of Prince Rupert as part of their transpacific trade solution since Fairview’s first phase opened in 2007,” said Don Krusel, President and CEO of the Prince Rupert Port Authority. Since its conversion from a breakbulk handling operation, Fairview Container Terminal has been operated by Maher Terminals.

Maher Terminals Holding Corp said on Tuesday it would boost container-handling capacity by more than half at the Port of Prince Rupert under an expansion of its container terminal at the northern British Columbia port.   The Fairview Container terminal will be expanded to 1.3 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per year, up from its current capacity of some 850,000 TEUs.
