Shell Feeds Gas to Australia's New Prelude FLNG
Royal Dutch Shell has introduced gas to its 490 meter (1,600 ft) long Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit as part of the cooling process before start-up, a spokeswoman told Reuters on Wednesday.Gas was fed to the unit from liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Gallina, she said.

Shell and Inpex are on the final stretch of a years-long race to export gas from offshore northern Australia, where both have spent billions of dollars building the world's biggest maritime vessels to grab a slice of Asia's booming LNG market. Anglo-Dutch energy major Royal Dutch Shell and Inpex, Japan's biggest oil and gas producer, are vying for first gas from two overlapping fields after delays and cost overruns that have plagued both projects. The pair have spent billions on offshore facilities, including Shell's 490 metre (1,600 ft) long Prelude floating liquefied natural gas unit and Inpex's Ichthys Explorer semi-submersible platform, both the world's largest of their class.
New LNG Ships To Be Built to Lloyd’s Environmental Standard
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is applying the Lloyd's Register Environmental Protection notation to four LNG ships under construction at its Nagasaki yard. This is the first time this stringent environmental standard has been applied to either LNG or Japanese built ships. Compliance with Lloyd’s Register’s Environmental Protection standard is voluntary. It is for the environmentally conscious owner who wants to manage environmental performance more effectively, and be able to demonstrate it. The notation promotes a standard of environmental performance beyond that covered by ISM and MARPOL, both in terms of design and the on-going operation of the ship.
LR Enviro Standard Employed On LNG Newbuilds
Lloyd's Register made three significant strides with one announcement when last month it divulged that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is applying the Lloyd's Register (LR) Environmental Protection notation to four LNG ships under construction at its Nagasaki yard.
