Russia's top natural gas producer, Gazprom, will eventually lose more than it gains from raising the gas price for Ukraine by 80 percent, analysts said on Friday, predicting Kiev would cut purchases and fail to pay in full. Gazprom on Thursday announced a price rise for Ukraine to $485 per 1,000 cubic metres, the second increase in three days. The $485 price is the highest of any Gazprom customer and compares with around $370 on average for clients in the European Union. Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk said the increase, two weeks after Moscow annexed Ukraine's Crimea region, was unacceptable and warned he expected Russia to step up pressure by limiting supplies to Ukraine.

Ukrainian plans for expanding Black Sea natural gas output have been thrown into doubt by Russia's seizure of Crimea, a region linked to most of Ukraine's offshore developments. Past price disputes between Russia and Ukraine have led to the Russians cutting off supply, prompting Kiev to spur development of its own resources including onshore shale gas and Black Sea fields. Ukraine failed to pay Russian gas company Gazprom $440 million by a deadline on Friday, sparking fresh concerns Gazprom could switch off supplies like it did in 2009. Ukraine's Black Sea push has attracted energy majors as investors, including Exxon Mobil, Royal Dutch Shell , ENI and OMV. Promising developments include the Odessa gas field where plans call for output of more than a billion cubic metres of gas by 2015.

(GPMi) announced the launch of the Gas West for LNG Growth Study, which analyzes the gas growth areas of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin in Alberta and British Columbia as key suppliers of natural gas to the developing liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities on the West Coast of British Columbia (Canada) and Oregon (United States). The proponents of 16 natural gas liquefaction (NGL) and export facilities have applied to the Canadian National Energy Board for licenses to export gas volumes or have announced potential projects.

UK firm Analox Sensor Technology Ltd. (AST) is backing an expedition which aims to produce previously unseen footage of submarine Polar Regions: 'Under the Pole Part II – Discover Greenland' has been inspired by explorer and diver Jacques Cousteau. Two commercial offshore diving companies, IHC Hytech and Fathom Systems, joined forces by signing a new international distributor agreement that was signed on May 7, 2013. Under the terms of the agreement, IHC Hytech will distribute Fathom Systems’ products in the commercial diving, hyperbaric tunneling and medical equipment markets. Based in Raamsdonksveer in The Netherlands, IHC Hytech is part of IHC Merwede, and designs and manufactures equipment for offshore diving and other related markets. Its product portfolio ranges from small portable breathing gas panels, to complete turnkey hyperbaric multi-chamber systems that are supplied complete with environmental control units.

Intertek invested £900,000 (4,143,720 Malaysian Ringgit) in a new Malaysian regional center which will bring enhanced services to the exploration and production (E&P) sector in the region. Based in Kuala Lumpur, the facility boasts two laboratories and will allow Intertek to significantly expand its locally delivered services for its existing E&P business in the region. It will be also be a focal point for the provision of local expertise through consultancy, technical support and testing services for the South East Asia region.

Intertek has signed a contract with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) to provide crude oil assay and gas analysis services. The information gathered will help shape the design and construction of their new Oil-Gas Processing and Petrochemical Complex (OGPC) near Baku city. Intertek will perform a variety of services including sample gathering, testing locally in Baku and full crude assay analysis within its U.K. North Sea operations. The work will take around six months to complete. Intertek has undertaken work for various divisions within SOCAR for the past 16 years.
