Reimelt Named Head of GE Power Conversion

Stephan Reimelt has been appointed as president and CEO of GE’s Power Conversion business, succeeding Joe Mastrangelo who becomes president and CEO of Power Generation Products for GE Power & Water, GE Energy Management president and CEO Mark Begor announced today. Power Conversion is at the heart of generating cleaner and more efficient power for multiple industries. Ge said it is a growing business, operating in 160 locations worldwide, with more than 7,000 employees. Under Mastrangelo’s leadership the backlog grew more than 70 percent in four years to reach $3.5 billion, being a crucial cornerstone for what will become a $13 billion Energy Management business when combined with Alstom Grid Solutions.

Eastern Launches Second MPSV for Hornbeck

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. has launched the second of two 302’x76’x26’ multipurpose service vessels in the HOSMPSV 310ES series for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC., the shipbuilder announced. The new vessel, HOS Woodland (Hull 242), was launched at Eastern’s Allanton facility on Friday, June 19 at an event with hundreds of Eastern employees and guests in attendance. HOS Woodland is the second ship to be christened on Eastern’s newly constructed 425’ rocker beam system installed on the northeast corner of Allanton’s 760’ launch basin.

GE Tech Enables Shore to Ship Energy Feed

GE Energy Management has signed a contract with French electrical engineering company Cegelec in Brittany, France to supply a complete static power solution for the French Navy. The solution will use GE’s Static Frequency Converters (SFCs) technology to provide high conversion efficiency and a safe and reliable power transfer from the electric power grid to the French naval vessels while in port. “To keep vessels charged fast and on time, the French Navy requires a reliable and stable supply of electricity. GE’s converter technology allows an efficient and secured transition of energy,” said Thierry Bideau, Lead Engineer, Cegelec. The public grid in France operates on a frequency of 50Hz and must be converted for use of electrical systems on board of French naval vessels…

Eastern Launches MPSV for Hornbeck Offshore

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. launched the HOS Warland (Hull 241) on Friday March 6, 2015 for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. On Friday, October 24, 2014, the christening and subsequent launching of the HOS Brairwood (Hull 210) the 10th HOSMAX launch in 20 months, followed with the same day delivery of the HOS Black Watch  (Hull 208) both for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The launch event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern employees and guests in attendance with an afternoon of perfect weather and launch conditions.

Eastern Holds another Double Event for Hornbeck Offshore

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced another “double event” in Panama City, Florida. On Friday, August 8, 2014, the christening and subsequent launching of the HOS Brass Ring (Hull 209), was followed with the same day delivery of the HOS Black Rock (Hull 207) for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The launch event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern employees and guests in attendance with an afternoon of perfect weather and launch conditions. Harsema-Mensonides Joins Braemar Engineering

Braemar Engineering announced the appointment of Alex Harsema-Mensonides as Director of Marine Business Development, effective from September 1, 2014. Harsema-Mensonides joins Braemar Engineering with a wealth of experience. He has held key roles across Europe, including technical and commercial positions in the marine industry across the Netherlands, Sweden and Germany, and also founded his own consultancy operating at the vanguard of the LNG sector around the world, advising GE Energy, ABB Marine and Caterpillar, amongst others.

Eastern Delivers 6th OSV to Horbeck

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the delivery of the M/V HOS Black Foot (Hull 206) to Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC, ahead of schedule and on budget. The HOS Black Foot is Eastern’s sixth of 10 offshore support vessels under contract and the second vessel designated as the HOSMAX 310 series by Hornbeck Offshore. Each vessel is Diesel-Electric powered, twin Z-drive propelled OSVs. These high-tech vessels feature four Caterpillar 3516C 16-cylinder turbo-charged Tier III diesel generator engines each rated at 1,825 kW at 1,800 rpm. Main propulsion power is provided by two GE Energy furnished Hyundai 2,500 kW 690VAC electric motors driving two Schottel SRP 2020 FP Z-Drives with nozzles rated at 2,500 kW at 1,025 rpm each for a total of 6,704 Hp.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the launch of the HOS Black Watch (Hull 208) on Friday June 6, 2014 for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The HOS Black Watch is Eastern’s fourth vessel in Hornbeck Offshore’s HOSMAX 310 class series. The launching event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern employees and guests in attendance. Also attending from Hornbeck was Bill Krewsky, Director of Engineering and Project Management, who spoke about the ongoing long term commitment, partnership and future of the two companies.

Eastern Shipbuilding Delivers BRAVANTE VII to GROUP

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the on-time delivery of the M/V BRAVANTE VII (Hull 157) on Wednesday May 21, 2014 to Boldini S.A., BRAVANTE Group of Brazil three months after the delivery of BRAVANTE VI (Hull 156), the second in the series and which is  is currently on charter in Brazil. The BRAVANTE VII is the third (3rd) STX SV290 design of five vessels in a series which are all, ABS Classed, AC Diesel-Electric powered, twin Z-drive propelled PSV’s measuring 284’(86.5m) x 60’(18.3m) x 24’-6”(7.5m). These high-tech vessels feature four Cummins QSK-60DM 16-cylinder turbo-charged IMO Tier II diesel generator engines each rated at 1825 kW at 1,800 rpm. Cummins also furnished the four Marathon Model 744 690VAC main generators.

Eastern Launches another Hornbeck Offshore Vessel

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the launching of the HOS BLACK ROCK (Hull 207) on Friday March 28, 2014 for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The HOS BLACK ROCK is Eastern’s third vessel in Hornbeck Offshore’s HOSMAX 310 class series. The launching event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern Employees and Guests attending despite rainy weather. Attending from Hornbeck was Bill Krewsky, Director of Engineering and Project Management. Bill spoke about the continued long term commitment, partnership and future of the two companies.

MSC Preziosa: The Ultimate in Cruise Ship Tech

MSC Cruises recently added a new state-of-the-art liner, the MSC Preziosa, helping the Italian company, truly a family business, attain the status of third largest cruise line in the world. MSC Preziosa is a Fantasia class cruise ship owned and operated by MSC Cruises. It entered service in March 2013 as an enhanced version of its sister ships, MSC Splendida and MSC Fantasia, and is identical to MSC Divina, which was launched in 2012. Built at the STX shipyard in St. Nazaire, France, MSC Preziosa is the new flagship of MSC Cruises. The new ship gained immediate recognition famous courtesy of its christening by actress Sophia Loren, and was significant as it signified that MSC Cruises is now the third largest cruise line in the world.

Eastern Delivers another Vessel to Hornbeck Offshore

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announce that on Thursday October 10, 2013, the M/V HOS Red Rock (Hull 202) was delivered to Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. The HOS Red Rock was launched on April 19, 2013. Hornbeck’s first vessel, the HOS Red Dawn (Hull 201), was delivered on June 21, 2013 and is currently servicing offshore drilling operations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Hornbeck’s third vessel the HOS Renaissance (Hull 203) and is currently at Eastern completing final outfitting, regulatory and DP-2 trials. Delivery of the HOS Renaissance is scheduled for November 2013.

Proposed Terminal to Bring LNG to Florida

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced that it has placed a purchase contract on property where it hopes to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel terminal in Jacksonville, Fla. This would be the first LNG facility on the Eastern seaboard to specifically supply LNG for the maritime, heavy-duty trucking and rail industries. The planned facility is the first project to be developed by Eagle LNG Partners, the recently-announced consortium of Clean Energy, GE Ventures, GE Energy Financial Services and Ferus Natural Gas Fuels, formed to jointly deliver the cleaner-burning, less-costly fuel in the United States. “Establishing LNG capacity in Jacksonville is a critical strategic effort to enable LNG fueling throughout the Southeast region for our various market segments…

ESG Launches M/V Bravante VII

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. has christened and launched the M/V BRAVANTE VII for Boldini S.A., BRAVANTE GROUP of Brazil. This is the third vessel launched in a series of five. The event was held on December 20, 2013 at Eastern’s Nelson Street Facility with hundreds of Eastern’s Employees and Guests. Attending from Bravante were Nuno Neves, William Grutter, Pedro Correa and Cristiana Marsillac along with several members that traveled from Brazil witnessing the launch of the third of five Platform Supply Vessels under contract with Eastern.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group delivered M/V HOS Red Rock (Hull 202) to Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. Hornbeck’s first vessel, the HOS Red Dawn (Hull 201), was delivered on June 21, 2013 and is currently servicing offshore drilling operations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The HOS Black Foot is Eastern’s second vessel in Hornbeck Offshore’s HOSMAX 310 class series. The launching event was held at Eastern’s Allanton facility with hundreds of Eastern employees and guests attending, including Naval Architecture students from the University of New Orleans, La. who were visiting the shipyard.
