MacGregor Wins Contract for COSCO Fleet

Cargotec unit MacGregor has signed a framework purchasing agreement to supply spare parts to Cosco Shipping's fleet.Under the deal, MacGregor would provide spare parts and service of equipment installed on COSCO’s fleet of more than 1,000 ships operating worldwide.“We are looking forward to increasing our collaboration with COSCO Shipping,” says John Carnall, Senior Vice President, Global Lifecycle Support, MacGregor.“The framework agreement provides for the scope of support services supplied to COSCO Shipping to be further enhanced, and will additionally enable more effective inventory forecasting across the fleet,” he added.COSCO Shipping is one of the world’s largest shipowning groups, with a wide range of shiptypes operating globally.

Peter Döhle, MacGregor Sign 70-ship Service Deal

MacGregor has signed a three-year MacGregor Onboard Care (MOC) service agreement with the German shipping company, Peter Döhle Schiffahrts Group, for an annual inspection of deck machinery, steering gear and cranes on a mixed fleet of 70 vessels. The agreement became effective as of 1 January 2017. "Our commitment is to provide the operative availability of equipment and ensure sustainable ship operations and earning capabilities for these vessels," says John Carnall, Senior Vice President, Global Lifecycle Support, MacGregor. The MOC service contract will provide approximately 100 inspections of key MacGregor-delivered equipment each year, including Hatlapa steering gear and deck machinery as well as MacGregor cranes.

Stena Line Extends Ferries Maintenance Contract

Swedish ferry operator Stena Line has renewed its planned maintenance agreement with MacGregor, part of Cargotec. Stena Line has held MacGregor Onboard Care (MOC) agreements since 2008 and its latest contract takes the number of RoRo vessels covered to 39. Wärtsilä Says It’s Ready for the BWM Convention

The International Maritime Organization's (IMO) International Convention for the Control and Management of ships' ballast water and sediments (BWM Convention) has been ratified and will enter into force on September 8, 2017. The treaty will ultimately require vessels in excess of 400 GRT to have a type approved BWMS installed and operating in accordance with the convention guidelines, and which conforms to the Regulation D2 discharge performance standard. Wärtsilä Preparing for Ratified BW Convention

Wärtsilä has proactively planned and developed its range of Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) solutions in anticipation of the ratification of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) ballast water convention. The minimum levels of acceptance have now been achieved and the convention is ratified. The International Convention for the Control and Management of ships' ballast water and sediments (BWM Convention) will enter into force on 8 September, 2017. Finland is the latest country to sign the instrument of accession, bringing the number of countries to 52, which is far more than the minimum of 30 IMO member states required by the convention.

MacGregor to Equip China’s New Polar Research Ship

The Polar Research Institute of China has ordered a new 14,300gt polar research vessel. Designed by Aker Arctic Finland, it will be the first vessel of its type to be built in China, though a shipyard has yet to be named. The 122.5-meter multifunctional icebreaker will be able to handle ice up to 1.5 meters thick, achieving a continuous icebreaking speed of two to three knots. It will have an endurance of 20,000 nautical miles and with a full 90-person crew, it will be able to cruise for 60 days without resupply.

Advanced MacGregor Technology for Polar Research Ship

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won an order to supply MacGregor offshore cranes and a Triplex handling system for a 14,300gt polar research vessel being built for the Polar Research Institute of China. Designed by Aker Arctic Finland, it will be the first vessel of its type to be built in China; the shipyard has yet to be named. "Our ability to deliver tailor-made packages of equipment and a reputation for successful low temperature operations were key factors in winning this contract," says William Storvik, Shiptype Group Sales Manager, MacGregor Offshore Deck Machinery. "MacGregor products have a proven track record of performance in extreme environments, which makes them ideal for this type of vessel.

Fiber-rope Retrofit Extends Subsea Crane Capabilities

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has launched a fiber-rope retrofit option for its subsea cranes; the modular upgrade replaces the crane's original steel wire rope with synthetic fiber rope, using the same technology as MacGregor’s fiber-rope crane, the FiberTrac 1500, introduced earlier this year. These cranes combine MacGregor's offshore crane technology with the fiber-rope tensioning technology perfected by Parkburn Precision Handling Systems. According to MacGregor, fiber rope’s advantage when used in this context is that it weighs virtually nothing in water, so regardless of the length of rope paid out; it does not add anything to the load experienced by the crane.

MacGregor Promotes Graduate Development with University Partnership

MacGregor (GBR) Ltd has established a new relationship with Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen by providing work placements that support the career development of graduates. The Aberdeen office of MacGregor's Global Lifecycle Support Division will work with the university to provide practical workplace opportunities for undergraduate and post-graduate students that will assist with their development activities. Through a series of planned short-term placements students will assist with marketing and commercial development for MacGregor's UK-based operations, including its new training centre. MacGregor Appoints 2 New VPs

MacGregor is presently building its new Global Lifecycle Support organisation to develop and enhance customer service both in the merchant shipping and offshore markets. The installed base of MacGregor's product portfolio of strong MacGregor, Hatlapa, Porsgrunn, Pusnes and Triplex brands is extensive in both markets and MacGregor is strongly focusing on serving its customers well throughout the lifetime of the installations. MacGregor announces appointments of two new Vice Presidents to lead its front line operations and service competence centres globally. Nick White is appointed as Vice President, Global Field Services which is an elemental part of the new Global Lifecycle Support in MacGregor group to drive the development of frontline service operations.

John Carnall (52) has been appointed Senior Vice President for the Global Lifecycle Support Division in MacGregor, part of Cargotec. "John Carnall will focus on developing our services and building a world-class service organisation to drive profitable growth. He is an ideal choice for this important position due to his long experience and proven track-record in developing successful and growing service business in several different global environments," says Mika Vehviläinen, President and CEO, Cargotec. Mr. Carnall joins MacGregor from Danfoss where he has held the position of Vice President, Parts and Services at Danfoss Power Solutions. Before working at Danfoss, Mr. Carnall has held similar positions in Atlas Copco, where he gained valuable experience also in the Oil and Gas segment.

MacGregor Reorganizes into 7 Operative Divisions

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, announces changes in its operative structure and starts a reorganization into seven operative divisions which will become effective on January 1, 2015. The six new operative divisions together with Global Lifecycle Support as the seventh one will enable MacGregor to improve customer service throughout the lifecycle of the products, offer more comprehensive packages and boost the development of new shiptype-specific solutions, the company said.
