Former U.K. MCA Chief is Hatsu’s New Head

Maurice Storey, the former Chief Executive of the U.K. Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA), is to become Chairman of Evergreen Group’s U.K. affiliate Hatsu Marine Ltd., effective December 1, 2003, while Jason Lin continues as president of Hatsu Marine Ltd. Faster Med Service

At the beginning of April 2004, Hapag-Lloyd will offer its customers an improved and expanded European Express Service (EEX), linking northern Europe with Italy and the eastern Mediterranean with weekly departures on fixed days. Customers will benefit from the new and faster ships deployed for the service. With the calls at Lisbon and now also Gioia Tauro, excellent links will be provided with Hapag-Lloyd's American and Asian services. Very good links will also be offered with Scandinavia and the Baltic states. The service will involve four containerships operating in the following rotation: Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp, Lisbon, Gioia Tauro, Taranto, Piraeus, Istanbul, Izmir, Taranto and Rotterdam again. Hapag-Lloyd introduced the EEX service along with Lloyd Triestino and Hatsu Marine Ltd.

Evergreen Line Name Effective May 1 for Four Carriers

Evergreen Marine Corp. Ltd., Hatsu Marine Ltd., Italia Marittima S.p.A. and Evergreen Marine Ltd. will adopt a unified common trade name Evergreen Line for international marketing, effective May 1, 2007. All four carriers are affiliates of Evergreen of Taiwan. There will be no effect on the services previously provided individually by the four carriers. They are all independent companies and will continue to act as shipowners and operators. Beginning May 1, the four carriers will issue a unified bill of lading title as Evergreen Line. The Evergreen Line Committee is made up of management representatives of the four carriers.

Steady as she goes for Evergreen

Ever Steady, the latest in a series of ten 7,024 TEU S-type vessels being built for Evergreen in Japan, has taken to the water for the first time. It was launched at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Kobe shipyard on August 22 at a ceremony hosted by Vice Group Chairman of Evergreen Group and Chairman of Evergreen Marine Corp, Chang Kuo-Cheng (K C Chang), and is due for delivery in December 2006, scheduled to enter service on the HTW service linking Southern China, Hong Kong and Taiwan with the West Coast of North America. Ever Steady is the sixth vessel in this series. Four have already entered service with the Evergreen Group’s UK affiliate Hatsu Marine Ltd and the fifth, Ever Superb, is due for delivery at the end of this month.

Hatsu Completes Latest Phase of Expansion

Hatsu Marine Ltd., has added two more post-Panamax container vessels, the Hatsu Crystal and Hatsu Smile, to its worldwide fleet. The 8,063 TEU C-type vessel Hatsu Crystal has been phased into the Evergreen Group’s CEM service where slots are allocated between Evergreen Marine Corp., Italia Marittima and Hatsu. The CEM service links China with North Europe and the Mediterranean, and is now served by an identical fleet of C-type vessels, four provided by Evergreen Marine and two each from Hatsu and Italia Marittima. The Hatsu Crystal is on long-term charter by Hatsu from the German shipowner Conti Reederei. The 7,024 TEU S-type vessel Hatsu Smile has entered service on Hatsu’s WAE route, a pendulum service linking the West Coast of North America, Asia and North Europe.

Mitsubishi launches Ever Spring

Ever Spring is the fifth in a series of ten S-types being built for the Evergreen Group by Mitsubishi. Three have already been delivered to the Evergreen Group’s UK affiliate Hatsu Marine Ltd and a fourth, Hatsu Smile, is due for delivery at the beginning of June. The honor of cutting the ceremonial rope sending the traditional bottle of champagne against its bow to launch and send Ever Spring on her way down the slipway was given to Mr K C Chang’s wife, Mrs Tseng Chiung-Hui. The Evergreen Group is taking delivery of 18 large post-Panamax containerships over the period 2005 to 2008 – ten S-types and eight 8063TEU C-types – allowing the Group companies to upgrade existing services and phase out older vessels.

Hatsu Marine Awarded Queen’s Award

Hatsu Marine Ltd., has been named recipient of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2006 in recognition of its commercially successful and socially responsible business operations. The Award was announced on April 21 to be conferred at a later date. The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise is said to be one of the U.K.’s most prestigious awards for business performance. Presented in three categories – International Trade, Innovation and Sustainable Development – entry is open to all business units that meet the criteria. The International Trade Award is conferred on businesses that have demonstrated substantial growth in overseas earnings and commercial success to a level that is outstanding for the services concerned and for the size of the applicant's operations.

Mitsubishi Launches Hatsu Smile

On February 4, 2006, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Kobe shipyard launched Hatsu Smile, the fourth in a series of ten 7024TEU S-type container vessels that the shipbuilder is constructing for the Evergreen Group. Like the first three ships in the series, Hatsu Smile will be operated by London-headquartered Hatsu Marine Ltd. Hatsu Smile was named by Mr Chang Kuo-Cheng (K C Chang), Vice Group Chairman of Evergreen Group and Chairman of Evergreen Marine Corp. The honour of cutting the ceremonial rope sending the traditional bottle of champagne against its bow to launch and send the vessel on its way down the slipway was given to Mrs Kuo Yeh Chiung-Yu, wife of Captain S Y Kuo who is also Vice Group Chairman for the Evergreen Group.

Evergreen Italy SpA to represent the Evergreen Group in Italy

The Evergreen Group has established a new liner agency company in Italy, Evergreen Italy SpA, as a joint venture with the company's long-standing partner and agent, Greensisam SpA. With effect from 1 January, 2006, Evergreen Italy SpA will represent all three Evergreen Group shipping lines, namely Evergreen Marine Corporation, Hatsu Marine Ltd and Lloyd Triestino di Navigazione SpA. Tecnomar SpA will continue to represent Lloyd Triestino in the Italian market as sub agent to Evergreen Italy. MHI Launches the Hatsu Ethic

The Hatsu Ethic, the last in a series of five 6332TEU E-type container vessels for Hatsu Marine Ltd., London, was launched today by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). delivery in January and will fly the U.K. flag. The vessel was named by Evergreen Group Chairman, Dr. Y. F. Chang. As part of the U.K. drive to attract ships back to the British flag, Pauline Prescott, wife of the Right Honorable John Prescott MP, U.K. Deputy Prime Minister and First Secretary of State, cut the ceremonial rope sending the ship down the slipway and into the water for the first time. Hatsu Marine was established in January, 2002. By the end of this year, it is planned that it will be offering shippers a global container service embracing North America, Asia, and Europe.

Hatsu Marine Another Vessel to Fleet

Evergreen Shipyard Corp in Nagasaki, Japan, has launched the U.K.-flag 1,618-TEU Hatsu Prima which, on delivery, will be the seventh ship in the fleet of the Evergreen Group's affiliate, Hatsu Marine Ltd. The first five Hatsu vessels were all 6,332-TEU E-type container vessels, the last of which was Hatsu Ethic, delivered in January 2003. The sixth was Hatsu Pride, delivered towards the end of the same month. The E-type vessels are currently operating on the transpacific while Hatsu Pride is trading between Asia and the Arabian Gulf. Deployment of Hatsu Prima will be finaliZed closer to delivery in July 2003.
