Bisso Completes Loadout

Bisso Marine Company, Inc. heavy lift crews using the 700 ton D/B Cappy Bisso and the 600 ton D/B Lili Bisso, recently loaded out five deck sections at Houma Industries in Harvey Louisiana. The largest section weighed 725 tons. Rigging for the project was provided by Versabar of Belle Chasse, La.

SCHOTTEL, a manufacturer of propulsion and steering systems for ships and offshore applications, announced the appointment of Svante Fielding and Randall Freeman at its North American organization, SCHOTTEL Inc., in Houma, La. Fielding, the new Vice President Operations, Fielding previously worked at the SCHOTTEL headquarters in Spay, Germany, and will join the management team in Houma in spring 2016. He brings to the position 20 years of experience within the marine and propulsion industry…

Siemens Opens Third Service Location

Siemens Industry, Inc. has announced that it has opened a third marine service location in Houma, La., devoted to servicing offshore supply vessels, ferries, cargo carriers and other ocean vessels. Similar to its sister marine service locations in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Seattle, Wash., the new Gulf Coast location will serve both on-call and service contract customers. The new Houma-based office will offer a myriad of repair and spare parts services for automation, drives, motors, instrumentation and controls, as well as condition monitoring and part audits. It will also offer technical support programs that provide software upgrades and scheduled maintenance for the entire electrical equipment system or portions of it, even if the original installation was not performed by Siemens.

Gauthiers’ Relocates, Expands Houma Facility

Gauthiers’, a Lafayette-based supplier of oil and gas industry containers and support equipment, officially opened the doors to its newly relocated and expanded Houma facility with a community crawfish boil on Friday, April 11. Approximately 200 invited guests dug into more than 1,000 pounds of boiled crawfish, toured the new facility and learned about the company’s newest products. SCHOTTEL Inc. USA inaugurates new service location in Houma, La.; new SCHOTTEL subsidiary sales office in Australia. With an inauguration ceremony SCHOTTEL opened new facilities in Houma, Louisiana in October 2013. As an answer to the growing request for new SCHOTTEL propulsion systems and the steadily growing population of drives on the market the German manufacturer moved from St. Rose, La. to new facilities in Houma, La. The new spacious premises offer a large administration area and state of the art service halls equipped with heavy lift cranes especially suitable for large units.

Global To Open Offshore HQ

Global Industries will significantly expand its capacity to meet operators' deepwater and reel pipelay needs in the Gulf of Mexico this December with the opening of its 625-acre offshore construction headquarters in Carlyss, La. Chosen because of its location along the 40 ft. (12.1 m) deep Calcasieu Ship Channel - the site is capable of supporting Global's deepwater fleet - and includes a pipe assembly rack that measure more than half a mile long. As a result of this new facility, Global closed both its Houma and Lafayette, La. facilities in late October to consolidate its offshore operations in Carlyss.

For many years Houma Fabricators, Houma, La. built passenger boats, offshore boats and other steel hulled vessels much like a dozen other shipyards in the Gulf south. In the mid-90's they built several large gaming boats for Iowa entrepreneur Bob Kehl. If you hadn't stopped by Houma Fabricators for the past two years, today you would not recognize the place. Purchased by Shipyard De Hoop of the Netherlands in 2001, the shipyard has undergone an amazing transformation with an $8.6 million expansion. The Dutch shipyard is turning the 42-acre Houma site into a shipyard to resemble the company's main facility in Lobith, Netherlands. " So far we have added three steel preparation halls, four subassembly halls, new slipways with bulkheads and a permanent launching system," said O.M.

Oil States Industries To Expand U.S. Operations

Adding to its growing list of subsidiaries, Arlington, Texas-based Oil States Industries, Inc. has decided to further its expansion prospects with the addition of CE Marine, Inc. Operating under the new name Oil States Skagit Smatco, the company, headquartered in Houma, La. will provide mooring systems, winches, pipe handling and other custom fabricated equipment to the Marine Industry. The company was originally formed in 1997 by Continental Ernsco as a result of the merging of SMATCO Industries, Inc. and Skagit Products. With Bobby Thompson continuing as the new company's president, Oil States will operate sales and engineering offices in Houston, Texas and Mount Vernon, Wash.

MEMCO Christens Joy Anne Keller

MEMCO Barge Line, the inland barging subsidiary of Electric Fuels Corp. (EFC), christened a new towboat in New Orleans. M/V Joy Anne Keller, named after the wife of EFC President and CEO Richard D. Keller is the 22nd towboat in MEMCO's fleet. Built by Quality Shipyards, of Houma, La., the 8,000 hp twin-screw towboat measures 180 x 48 x 11.5 ft., and is designed to operate on the Lower Mississippi River between Cairo and New Orleans. MEMCO Barge Line, the inland barging subsidiary of Electric Fuels Corp. (EFC), christened a new towboat in New Orleans. M/V Joy Anne Keller, named after the wife of EFC President and CEO Richard D. Keller is the 22nd towboat in MEMCO's fleet.

Cheramie & Sons Anticipate New Tug

The Lafayette, La.-based Rene’ J. Cheramie & Sons, has a 116’ x 34’ x 17’ ocean tugboat under construction at Main Iron Works of Houma, La. The new towing vessel, powered by twin 3516B HD Caterpillar diesels will be named ANN T. CHERAMIE. The vessel underwent plating in December and is expected to be delivered in July. tugboat built by Main Iron Works for the Cheramie company. and equipped with a Markey double drum towing winch on the stern deck for ocean towing”. ANN T. CHERAMIE will be the third tugboat designed by Basile for the Cheramie company.

Waterways Re-Open

The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Marine Safety Information Bulletin stating that all ports, channels, and tributary waterways in the COTP Houston/Galveston AOR are open to project depth. Particular caution is advised, though, in the Galveston Bay Entrance Channel, the Galveston Harbor Channel, and Barbour’s Cut due to possible shoaling. The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Marine Safety Bulletin stating that all waterways in the MSU Morgan City AOR are open to project depth, with the exception of the Houma Navigation Canal north of the Houma Navigation Bridge. Minimum wake restrictions are in effect from GIWW MM 20 to MM 65 and in the vicinity of MM 160. Continued caution is advised as the waterways and shorelines remain in a delicate condition. TBS Takes Delivery of Two Handymax Bulk Carriers

TBS International Limited has taken delivery of the M.V. Canarsie Princess, formerly known as the M.V. Athinoula, and the M.V. Houma Belle, previously known as the M.V. North Star. M.V. Canarsie Princess is a 1985 built, 42,842 dwt handymax bulk carrier that the Company agreed to acquire charter free for $30.3 million in February 2008. The acquisition of M.V. Houma Belle, which was announced in April 2008, is a 1985 built, 42,219 dwt handymax bulk carrier that the Company agreed to acquire for $34 million charter free. With these deliveries, TBS's current fleet consists of 44 multipurpose tweendecker, handymax and handysize vessels. TBS expects to take delivery of an additional handymax bulk carrier (M.V. Fox Maiden) by the end of Q3 2008.

Schottel Promotes Two Executives

Schottel Inc. of Houma, Louisiana , announced that Hank Morgan has been  promoted to Vice President, Sales and Service, and James Fremin has been promoted to Vice President, Finance. Schottel said it has seen a strong growth in the North American market place over the last 10 years and has recently expanded and realigned their organization to support their customers in a more efficient way. The new facility in Houma is fitted out for service work and repairs with modern equipment and procedures to ensure high quality work.

New USACE Contract

Gulf Island Fabrication, Inc., Houma, La., was awarded on May 6 a $9,410,156 firm-fixed-price contract to obtain marine services to modify the dredge Potter.  The modification includes replacing the existing upper deckhouse and pilothouse areas.  This project requires engineering and design, fabrication, testing, and delivery services to provide the required modifications.  The dredge Potter is in support of dredging efforts for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District.  Work is to be performed in Houma, La., with an estimated completion date of July 23, 2011.  Thirteen bids were solicited with three bids received.  U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District, Philadelphia, Pa., is the contracting activity (W912BU-10-C-0019).

Inc. from Shamrock Management L.L.C. of Houma. “The acquisition broadens our customer base and brings additional products and services to our already diverse line of offerings,” said Shane Thibodeaux, former general manager of L&H Electric under its previous owner, Mr. David Henry, prior to his death in 2007. Edison Chouest, BP Extend GoM Partnership

Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) and its family of companies has reached a 30-month alliance agreement with BP, the largest energy investor in deepwater Gulf of Mexico over the past decade. Chouest and BP have enjoyed a business alliance for over eight years, and the new alliance will continue to include Chouest affiliates ECO (vessel services), C-Port (multi-service terminal facilities in Louisiana’s Port Fourchon) and C-Logistics (logistics coordination, expediting and tracking cargo movement). Items in the alliance agreement include a three-year extension for utilization of BP’s Gulf of Mexico Preservation and Maintenance facility, designed and built by Chouest, and located at the intersection of Hwy. 90 and LA 311, just northwest of Houma, La.

Rapp Provides Winch Drive to Otto Candies

Rapp technicians recently completed a winch drive retrofit for Otto Candies in Houma, LA, early this year. An existing Rapp hydraulic winch was converted to electric, making use of Rapp’s Active Heave Compensation (AHC) package. Rapp’s package includes a motor recognized at the 2010 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) Spotlight on Technology  ceremony. Its design features liquid cooling—despite the fact that the R&D team at the outset considered myriad air-cooled designs before opting for liquid-cooling. Owing to favorable acknowledgement in the industry, Rapp patented the design. The motors are mounted on Rapp’s own in-house manufactured gearbox,  that it developed long ago for its hydraulic winch lines.

H.I.G. Capital Completes Acquisition of PetroCom

PetroCom LLC announced that an affiliate of H.I.G. Capital, a Miami-based private investment firm, has completed the previously announced acquisition of PetroCom. Headquartered in New Orleans, PetroCom is a leading cellular carrier in the Gulf of Mexico and a full-service telecommunications solutions provider for the offshore industry. Last year H.I.G., through its Bayside Capital affiliate, acquired Sola Communications, a leader in the delivery of telecommunications related services for the offshore oil and gas and emergency services markets. In connection with its acquisition of PetroCom, H.I.G. also obtained regulatory approval to combine the PetroCom and Sola businesses. PetroCom is the fifth Gulf area company in which H.I.G. has invested in the past few years.

Gulfstream Services: Billy Marcel Promoted

Gulfstream Services, Inc. (GSI) names Billy Marcel as Manager of Global Operations – Decommissioning Services Division. US-based Gulfstream Services, Inc. is a global corporation focused on developing high pressure equipment solutions for the international oil and gas industry. GSI has four divisions – rental tools, wireline, cementing assembly and decommissioning – in four strategic oil and gas hubs. Gulfstream Services President Mike Mir said that, based in Houma, La., Marcel will be responsible for the daily supervision of personnel and products as well as the long term growth strategy for the decommissioning operations in the US and Aberdeen, Scotland facilities.

On July 29, 2013, The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. (AEU) presented the 2012 Safety Awards at the annual American Longshore Mutual Association (ALMA) Conference in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, where Coach Gene Stallings was the keynote speaker. The awards are given each year to the best performing ALMA members nationwide and are based on the number of accidents and the severity of accidents for the calendar year. The award is an acknowledgement that these companies are leaders in the most important aspect of business operations - protecting employees from injury or death.

Hoover Container Solutions Names Matis Sales Director

Hoover Container Solutions,a subsidiary of Hoover Group, Inc., has named Matt Matis as director of sales for the Gulf of Mexico region. Matis is based in Thibodeaux, La., and will work closely with Hoover’s facilities in Port Fourchon, New Iberia and Scott, La. Matis will lead Hoover’s Louisiana sales efforts with a focus on the offshore industry while managing several major customer accounts. Additionally, he will work closely with the Hoover and Dolphin Energy Equipment teams to develop an integrated product and service offering to better support customers.
