Warbreck Contracted for Nuclear Submarine Project
Warbreck Engineering and Construction, a wholly owned subsidiary of the HS Ocean Group of Companies, has been awarded a marine contract by BAE Systems for the manufacturing a structural support framework as part of a plan to create a full-size steel replica of the new Successor class submarine’s nuclear reactor compartment. The support framework will be manufactured and assembled in sections at Warbreck’s 24,000-square-meter facility - dimensionally checked at each stage – and then shipped to the BAE Systems site in Barrow, where it will be reassembled. Its primary use will be to allow personnel to safely access the mock up, carry out design justification reviews and assist in the development of future crew by enabling training activities to be undertaken in a ‘real life’ scenario.
MCTAYS Invests $1.7m in Facility Upgrade
A shipbuilder has invested more than $1.7million (£1million) at its headquarters, including upgrading a slipway which is now capable of accommodating vessels up to 2,000 metric tons. MCTAYS, the shipbuilding subsidiary of HS Ocean Group of Companies, opened the upgraded slipway at its yard in Birkenhead on the banks of the River Mersey to coincide with its 40th anniversary. British Shipbuilder Lands Thames Barge Contract
McTays, the shipbuilding subsidiary of HS Ocean Group (HSOG), was awarded a contract to design and build four barges by waste management company Cory Environmental. The barges designed by McTays will be lighter and offer greater flexibility in order to meet Cory’s requirements. The 12 month contract will underpin 60 jobs within the company’s shipyard for 12 months and will benefit the local supply chain. HSOG Launches Apprenticeship Program
HS Ocean Group (HSOG ) celebrates National Apprenticeship Week by committing to long-term Apprenticeship program. The marine services specialist HSOG has launched a formal Apprenticeship training program following the successful progression of its first ever apprentices. The global company – which has offices in 12 countries across four continents – engaged six apprentices at its McTays Shipyard and Warbreck Engineering facilities in Merseyside last year. The apprentices are training across a range of disciplines including steelwork, fabrication, mechanical fitting, machining and engineering.
