A U.S. navy destroyer sailed near islands claimed by China in the South China Sea on Friday, drawing a warning from Chinese warships to leave the area. China Complains of 1,416 Vietnam Vessel Rammings
A statement on the China Foreign Ministry’s website, claims that as of 5 pm on June 7, 2014 there were as many as 63 Vietnamese vessels in the area near the Xisha Islands in the South China Sea at the peak, attempting to break through China’s cordon and ramming Chinese government ships a total of 1,416 times. On 2 May 2014, a Chinese company's HYSY 981 drilling rig started its drilling operation inside the contiguous zone of China's Xisha Islands for the purpose of oil and gas exploration. With the first phase of the operation completed, the second phase began on 27 May. Using frogmen, fishing nets, floating objects and hundreds of boat rammings, Vietnam escalated its harassment of China over Beijing’s legal oil drilling in the South China Sea.
Detained China Cruise Ship Released
The Chinese Consulate General in Jeju Island has confirmed that the detained Chinese cruise liner 'Henna' has left the island for China after posting a bond to the Jeju court, reports Xinhua. The Henna is expected to arrive in Tianjin on Wednesday morning, 18, September 2013. HNA Tourism, the Beijing-based operator of the vessel, posted a bond of US$ 2.8 million for the release of the ship. All the 1,659 passengers have left Jeju reports Xinhua. China Navigation Orders MacGregor Machinery for Four New Vessels
China Navigation Company's (CNCo) four new Chief Class 22,000dwt multi-purpose vessels ordered from Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. (Ouhua), on Zhoushan Island in China, will each feature three 60-ton variable frequency drive (VFD) MacGregor cranes and hydraulically-operated MacGregor hatch covers. The order was booked in the second quarter 2013 order intake. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in late 2014 and first quarter 2015 and the contract includes options for an additional 2+2 vessels. CNCo is the deep-sea ship-owning and operating arm of the Swire group of companies and is wholly-owned by the group's parent company, John Swire & Sons.
